Thread: Don't be fooled by the low ball!

SoE did it beforewhen they were talking about Merchant Fees, remember? They wanted to set it on value of merchandise loaded in the vendor. In the end, we got 10 cr/hour at master merchant -a set rate, which most wanted. I see this just like the original poster said - they are low balling, and will come back with higher numbers.

SOE pulls 660 items across 6 vendors from the air.

Everyone goes ballistic, most threatened to unsubscribe, yadda yadda yadda... 40 page thread.

SOE officially comes forward and states "We hear you Merchants! After careful consideration we've decided to up the vendor limit to 1500 across 6 vendors!"

There was much rejoicing... the masses thank SOE profusely and get the warm fuzzy feeling that they listen to us and care about us.

How long will it take for you to realize that you got 'sneak poked'? And not even a kiss.

This is too scary now that I'm reading it and not thinking about it.

In all of this mass hysteria, I wonder if an underlying issue is being missed though. Since day one of "game-on" there have been all sort offlavors of problems relating to what I, and am sure many others believe, is a very poorly coded database. Everything from vendors, items, inventory, houses, bazaar, etc etc...anything that relies on the database that SWG runs on top of has been affected.

Am I the only one that finds it a very strange coincidence that shortly after TH's GREAT CHARACTER WIPE announcement that this merchant nerf is happening? All this tells me is that the devs are scrambling around trying to free up the load ona database that is on the edge of imploding. The character wipe along with this patch would serve to free up database space for new players with the launch of JTL. I think the devs have given up (or have been told to do so by a higher power) on trying to fix the database problem.

I've said this in other posts, but SOE, like most businesses, is all about making money. The game, as it stands, even with the insanity of thing that most of us have gone through in the last year, has been profitable for SOE. They gain noprofit by providing a more stable database to the players, and with the launch of JTL around the corner (a new source of profit for SOE) the devs focus has been turned from SWG.

I really don't think we'll ever see the database issues get resolved until SWG2 or something!

Either way...Low ball carousel or underlying problems, we're all being taken advantage of.

why cant we have them just the way they are?

no reduction

if we really need a cap 500 items for vender skill in artisain tree

1500 novice merchant = per vender

2000 for each merchant box in venders per vender.

its a thought

well, they're definetly lowballing us. No doubt.

Our city of kor fatell is mainly a crafting community. You can find almost anything there. This cap, even if they bring it up to 2000 is a joke. I find solice in the fact that I can stock my six vendors with over 5000 items from 3 different professions and then just forget about it for a couple weeks. During which time I can have fun with my alt who is looting, pvping or whatever. Just a preliminary poll suggests between this and the macro issue we are going to loose most of our officers - including myself. I'll stay on towitness the carnage that insues after patch10, but will not be paying SOE anymore of my hard earned cash.

That is exactly the thought that crossed my mind when I saw these ridiculouly low limits: They're lowballing us so we'll be satisfied with the real number they want to go with. Either that or they know virtually nothing about the various crafting professions. I find the entire scenario very disheartening.

Our city's weaponsmith hasover 2000 weapons on his vendor so the shopper who comes there will have a full array of weapons and is unlikely to find the item he wants is out of stock. I have a tailor....do they have any idea how many items a tailor must stock to present a full array of items? Just makes me wonder.

In my humble opinion Merchant is a dumb skill. I like things the way they are. You have to put in effort to get the vendor, tent, etc. but then you can drop the skill and move on to things which are actually fun. The suspicious side of me wonders if this is a move to force crafters to get alt accounts if they want to be able to do any adventuring in the game.

Something else of interest, you hardly see anyone complaining about the fact that if they don't have the skill points in merchant they're going to have to get them with this patch. Could the limits be a little smokescreen for that too?

I have been thinking that as well.

First thing we will see is that TH will make an announcement "We will discuss with the merchant and crafting correspondants about which is a reasonable limit".

Has been discussed before, like many of other changes. How many times do we need to discuss the same thing before SOE understands it? Think they can remove the entire correspondant thing since this is obviously not working. I undersatnd that they can't read all suggeions/comments on the boards but they can at least listen (and read the "top issue" posts) to the correspondants.
