no it didnt!
all that channel does is make it easier for looters to trade loot! trade so-called high end weapons, armor, sticks, or whatever they fancy. why stare at a chat channel screen when you can just geet off your rump and go shopping in a store!
this channel has been out for a few days and business for me has not fallen at all, and i dont see other business's going under aswell.

uhh if you read my post you will see i dont sit and stare at it,,,
and if you cant see how it completely killed a tree in merchant,, then im guess you are one of those grind to master,, keep all the skills and drop...
As for the loot trade thing, that is what the trade forums is for, and has no place in game.. for any random person,.,

I honeslty don't see why you're so upset about it. It's a great addition to the game. A person can wait and hope a crafter advertises what they are interested in, or just pull up the planetary map and go to the appropriate shop. Honestly it sounds like you're just complaining for the sake of it. And by the way, I didn't grind merchant and still have all my merchant skills. The channel is great for crafters, as it provides for an easier method of finding other crafters whom can make items they may need for their own products. Please don't be so melodramatic.

Yea I'm afraid I disagree. MOST of us have stated that the trade forums are a bad way to trade merchandise. It needs to be in game. The auction channel should be good for that. I don't see it as a threat to merchants at all.
And I don't believe I'm grinding through merchant and sacrificing the skills...

Auction channels are very common in MMORPGs. They all operate basically the same way.
Personally, I made 3 droid sales the first day by monitoring the channel that I would not have made otherwise.
The best part about it is that this will help people with the empty vendor problem. If you are looking for something just monitor the channel and see who is selling what.
You cant expect miracles from a public, unfiltered, channel with no CSR moderator. So far on my server ther is no constant spam. If someone is spamming it is once per minute.
Merchant = skill point sink (but thats another thread)

and NO i did not climb merchant and drop it!
the only thing in merchant i have NOT completed is the master block, not yet at least.
and when i said "staring at the trade channel" i was referring to everyone in the game not
just you.

by the way, its not polite to assume we all grinded through merchant!
operating a fulll-time clothing store is not grinding merchant!
i was not being arrogant with my first reply to this thread, but you on the other hand
have shown great arrogance.

I like the new channel - and on the two servers I play most I've not expericenced excessive "useless spam, and imature talk" after the first excitment on the first day past. There are idiots everywhere but as a whole I'm impressed how everyone is keeping it clean so far.

I like the new channel as well. The two servers that I play on have been keeping itself fairly clean, though I've added a few /addignore
hehe On starsider I watched an actual auction go off. It was pretty nifty and it sure beat having to hit refresh on the trade forums every few minutes to see if you've been outbid!

this is the worst blow to the profession since disapearing items. This channel is fill with useless spam, and imature talk. I have yet to find anything remotely interesting and usually i am sick in 2 mins of watching, i havent been able to stomach any longer. The channel was a good idea toatlly gone wrong, its worst than the forum bashing that goes on.
One way to fix it would be make it a master merchant only skill to type in the channel. all else read only. Cause with no cert you just killed an entire tree of merchant, im not even gonna bother with global or any add anymore.. ill just go by word of mouth.. its worked for the last year....
Congrates you just took a fairly broke professions and offically killed it, /CHEER !

Well since the auction channel arrived i haven't noticed any dip in profits, infact the first day the channel was open i made more money on that day than i did the whole week before hand!! 
I aslo managed to get hold of a few items i needed that i have been after for weeks, all on the new auction channel.
Its been all good for me so far, apart from the odd begger/spammer but as someone has alrady stated /addignore is your friend.
Oh and yeah i also agree that all trade should be done ingame only.
