Thread: Small Issue Illegal Vendor Names

Well, considering people are losing vendors and items, this feels pretty insignificant right now, but I'll toss it in the mix and maybe it can get looked at down the road.

I'm wondering what words people have found can't be used in vendor names? No, not the obvious words that shouldn't be there, but things that would help define my vendor. For me, the big ones that cannot be used in a vendor name, in any way, shape, or form are:

Doc (including doctor)

Medic (including Medical and combat medic)

Enhance (including enhancement) - technically, this is what "buff" packs are called, and I want to use both terms to distinguish old style buffs from the new Poison/Disease resist ones.

There's a bunch more, I will add as I encounter them as I am setting up my shop again now (I quit this &*(&% game, but dang it, I just love crafting too much)

I'd appreciate it if other crafters and merchants could post some words that can't be used in vendor names, and maybe submit it to the devs later to find out why.

Let's see, yesterday I was unable to create a vendor when the name started with any of the following:

The
Gambling
Loaded
Dice

Anybody else finding it difficult to come up with names for vendors given these restrictions?

Goomo - Harbinger Galactic Wholesale
Aegis, Corellia (1763, -6737)

Wookiee doesn't work. I hate that I have to call my vendor Wook Wear.

The name filter is controled by LucasArts and it includes any name or string that they consider intellectual property as well as any title or word they feel is inappropriate. The matching engine doesn't account for spacing so the string is detected in any word (ex. discount gets busted because of Count) I HATE the filter but I've been told its not up for discussion. I needle them about it every chance I get on the off chance they will one day push LA to make changes.

what about doc, medic and enhance?

Why might those be restricted? I can understand wookie, although I guess I feel if people are playing a game where money goes to LucasArts, perhaps they should allow a little free use of their trademarks.

Jedi and Lightsaber don't work. Pretty obvious ones though considering that any Lucasarts owned names are taboo in the Lucasarts game.

So my actual vendor is Lightsabre Kits. Most people don't noitce when you flip lettres aruond in the middle of wrods anyway...

Doc and Medic are probably caught becasue they are profession titles. Enhance... heh.. "han" is not allowed in ANY context in the filter.

So what's so wrong with Architect in the name?

So mad I had to name my vendor "Asia Arch-tect Artisan Goods"

Note that it TOOK Artisan.

I tried to name a vendor: Weapons by the Crate. The filter didn't like that. So I named it: Weapons-by-the-Crate, and that worked. Not sure if it was 'Weapon', 'by', 'the' or 'Crate' that was the offending word, but just seems a little silly to me.

Exactly. I mean really, why on earth the filters will not accept Architecture or Architectural is incomprehensible. If artisan is accepted then why not Architect? Tailoring, tailor and Tailored are accepted as well. Note...if the titles on our houses will accept profession titles, then why not vendors?

I really wish a dev would explain these things to us. It would make for alot less complaining (on my part at least ) if I at least knew some of the reasons why certain things work/don't work in game.

So I can't make a vendor called "Free Handjobs" just because "han" is in the name? What a rip.

I'm not sure, but i think the filter also hits things used by other players as character names or possibly PA names, that why i usually use a - or an = sign on either side of a word i think may be flagged that way.
