Doc and Medic are probably caught becasue they are profession titles. Enhance... heh.. "han" is not allowed in ANY context in the filter.

Hrmm, I'll work with the fearful apostrophe and see if that helps.

I noticed that before the Merchant Nerf, two vendors of the same name could not exist. Now I have all of my vendors on different planets named the same. So I think they eased the filter a bit somewhere along the line.

I think the name filter is the same one they apply to character names. So that is why it is so restrictive.

No Numbers are allowed anywhere in the name. And most game related nouns.

Exactly. I mean really, why on earth the filters will not accept Architecture or Architectural is incomprehensible. If artisan is accepted then why not Architect? Tailoring, tailor and Tailored are accepted as well. Note...if the titles on our houses will accept profession titles, then why not vendors?

I really wish a dev would explain these things to us. It would make for alot less complaining (on my part at least ) if I at least knew some of the reasons why certain things work/don't work in game.

I agree that there is no reason to place those sorts of restrictions on a vendor name. But in truth the answer to your question is rather simple: it is because the vendors use the same name filter as the filter that restricts player names. This also answers the questions regarding the use of numbers and the use of & characters in a vendor name: these are not allowed in player names and since vendors use the same filter, they are not allowed in vendor names either.

So what I am saying is this: asking "what is wrong with having X in a vendor name?" is to ask the wrong question. The answer to that question is trivial: They inherit these restrictions from the character naming filter. The question should be: "why do vendors use the player name filter?"

The answer to that question is.. Because LucasArts said so. They changed it a while back right after launch and then it changed back becuase they were apparently told to put it back to the same filter.

I wish they would post a list of the non-profanity words *we can figure those out for ourselves..hehe) that we can't use in vendor names. It seems like I end up retrying several dozen different names until I find one that works. Only to have the vendor come out fat and in flourescent colors anyway. My latest attempt to make a "temporary garage sale - close outs" vendor taught me that the word "temporary" isn't allowed either. I don't understand their logic at times.

Wow, I guess I'm incredibly lucky because my name is Hannah Morwe in the game 8).

I must have escaped their name filter somehow. Unfortunately, I can't name any of my vendors Styles by Hannah now. It has to be Styles by H'nnah 8).

I had 3 vendors for a very long time all named exactly the same....never encountered this issue. I also moved at least one every 2 months or so.
