Did some searches but wasnt able to find any good info on this so here goes.

My alt is currently Master Artisan, Tailor and Merchant 3044 and has a well stocked shop, now however my main char is going to drop the doctor profession and I want my alt to take it up but that mean shes only going to be Artisan 0440 and have no merchant skills. Quick look at the skill trees say max 250 items for sale and 2 vendors and sure i can live with that (ill do a BE clothting only shop) but can i place some good looking NPC vendors now and use my current skill to dress them and when i drop my merchant skills keep these vendorsand not be stuck with ugly machines?

Yes, that will work right now.

Be aware, however, that it may change at some point in the future and cause your vendors to poof.

That's the spirit Freca!

If your products are good - you could sell them out of a cardboard box and still do well.

Well, I'm better than dirt! Well, most kinds of dirt.
I mean, not that fancy store-bought dirt.
That stuff's loaded with nutrients. I can't compete with that stuff.

I think vendor appearance matters.

We've gone through this one before. I've got four "slim" terminal vendors in my tent from when I was a master merchant. I dropped down to 3/0/0/4 a while ago (actually 3/0/0/0, picked up management with the item limits).

You can call me an exploiter until the cows come home. You can throw eggs at me until the chickens stop laying them. I don't care. I'm not going to restock over 1200 items (currently), 90% of which have to be priced individually after checking their stats simply because I don't have the hiring line any more.

I also don't think it's the same arguement as vendor poaching. Vendors have always fallen under the management line, implying that the skills give you the ability to manage multiple employees. Vendor appearance has always been governed by the hiring skill mod, found under the hiring line. I can see having to fire people because I lack the skills to manage them. I can't imagine walking into my store and yelling "everyone, get the heck out - if I had to hire you all over again right now I wouldn't have the skill to do it."
