Thread: Beast of Burden for Merchants

Wouldn't it be good if Merchants with vendors could have a beast of burden? It would be of great help when having to move a shop or unload a vendor.

Even better if Merchants could have caravans of two creatures.

This option would only be available to the Merchant profession. Sure would make moving stores to player cities a lot quicker.

I had thought of that as well. How about adding some space in vehicles for us as well.

Ok..flesh this out though. What happens when you store the creature or the vehicle? You are wanting this to keep your items like a droid storage module does? I can tell you already that if that is the case you are going to have a problem because they will resist any change that drastically increases the storage space you can have.

How about some form of temporary storage that is NOT log-out persistant. In other words, you can use it for storage only during the current login session - and it's contents will be deleted when you log out. That way, it's really only good for moving items in quantity, and not for long term storage.

Of course, client crashes would really suck...

By the way.....I wish we could have the same sort of arrangement with lots. For example, let me use up to 14 lots temporarily during the current log-in session only, to let me place anew structure before having to cross the galaxy to dismantle one - but any extras over 10 will be deleted if I log out....same theory.

How about making it persistent to relieve the client crash problem, but have the beast of burden have a per item/per hour (logged in)cost to discourage using it solely for storage. Something like 100c per hour. Then you would incurr a 100c/per item/per hourcost for moving it across the galaxy, but once it's empty the bleeding stops.

I doubt they'll allow anything "persistent" in game that doesn't take lots (for a variety of reasons). To make something persistent move rapidly across land and planets and server lines as a person travels would mean a big code change I think. This leaves us with very few options to get around the "client crash" problem.

What if Droid Engineers could create "Transport Crates" as deeds? These deeds, once 'tamed' would not go to player inventory, but could only be placed in structures, like furniture. Like packs droped in a house, you can put items in and take items out. Also just like packs, the items inside them would be counted against the item limit of a structure.

Now here's the key: only Binary Load Lifters would be able to pick up Transport Crates. And the BLL could not be stored while holding a transport crate.

This still doesn't get around the client crash problem, though .

Um.. your character can have 110 or so persistent items on it and moves around a ton.

I meant peristent as in "does not go away when you log", not stays in the game world like a house.

I meant "persistent" as in remains in game in the event of a client crash, and doesn't revert to your inventory or datapad.

YEA! Something for the BLL to do! That would be SO cool!

I'd just like them to give us crate containers period.

My shop looks SOOOOO stupid with travel packs hanging all over the walls and satchels all over the floor - it's SOOOOO immersive......

We had UNLOCKED CONTAINERS till they nerfed them.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

Shameless bump because I'd like to see more ideas on this from the Merchants - consistently the most thoughtful and creative players in SWG.
