Thread: Request: Able to 'mute' merchant droids

I don't know how welcome my suggestion will go over here, but we have an option to turn off chat from AFKers, why not an option in our controls to mute what merchant droids say?

Personally I hate spammers and add them to my ignore list. Now I know that they want to get business and some will say merchant droids are the only way to spread the word. I know there is a one minute timer on the droid, but still if you are by a major starport there are 4-5 droids at a time on Bria. I talk with friends, or new people to the game by the starports so this can be annoying.

If the correspondent reads this, what do you think? I don't know how this would be that bad of athing since we can already ignore a player, ignore afkers, why not droids?

mmh, I don't think that Barker Droids are a Problem. I bought a Droid some time ago and a week ago I was able to use it after all when I finished the merchant Profession. The Droid can't bark very often when turned on, he does it automatically one or two times ... in a minute! You can only teach him one sentence. Thats nothing against afk's that created a macro to spam you every second and filling the screen with white text bubbles.

So, when you think about it, more droids is equal to less spamming, because you can't create these shout-macros. So, if everybody used droids, the starports would be very quiet again

You know I understand the sentiment here but what is the motivation for merchants to ask for their barker droids to be easily filtered out? How does that help the merchant community?

Some one devotes an extra 14 Skill points to Advertising and gets a shiny Barker droid who can only bark every 60 seconds and only when someone is nearby. He can't shout and there a limitations to what you can do once you place him. Adding an option for everyone to ignore the poor fellow would make the expenditure completely useless.

Well, one way it works, Elyssa, is to store itself everytime I use my spaceship to travel to another planet. Not too useful when this occurs.....

Maybe it gets lonely when you leave it behind.

I've heard about that, tho.

Still don't know exactly why.

There's a thread about it floating around here somewhere.

And how do you know it doesn't say anything when nobody's around?

I saw a tree fall silently once, but I'm really sneaky. It didn't see me coming...

I agree.

Barker droids are infinitely less annoying than the spammers.

They have a longer delay, they have limits to how much they can say, they won't say it if there's nobody nearby.

In fact it's my opinion that if it weren't for the spammers causing so much aggrivation, there wouldn't be so much ill-will regarding the droids.

Besides, anybody can write an AFK spam macro.

I paid for my barker droid with 14 skill points and there should not be an /ignore mechanism built in for them.

Someday I'm gonna have to try using one of these just to see how it works.

Originally I believe the storing when you fly was intended to combat the pulling-multiple-droids bug that would allow someone to have literally 5 droids out on 5 different planets. Of course the implementation was borked, and now you can't even have 1 out and travel to a different planet. Supposedly that's how they wanted it, but in that case they're devaluing 2 professions at once....merchant adv. IV and Droid engineers who make these things. I just love it.

Player -"Hey, my game is broke or something"

CauseSomeoneRealized- "No, this is working as intended"

Player - "yeah, but it's NOT working"

CauseSomeoneRealized - "We're sorry for your frustration, but it IS working and it IS fair of us to charge you for it. Now go read the holocron, it contains all information on a galaxy wide searchable database containing all things ever"

Player - "yeah, but my holocron doesn't work"

CauseSomeoneRealized - "We're sorry you're not enlightened enough to view the holy contents of the Holocron, the recepticle of all knowledge in the galaxy, but this IS working as intended. If you need further assistance please bend over and insert your head into your throat from the back. We hope we were able to help, though honestly after reading what we wrote it'd be a miracle if we did, and are glad you're paying us and have no ability to complain about our performance, cause we would get fired in a second"

Player - backs away slowly, afraid for the future of video games.

I would suggest allowing players to mute droids on a per-log in session. That way if they're not in the mood to shop they can avoid it that log in, yet the option can be presented the next time. A compromise. I hate the constant scroll of AFK spammers as well, and regularly add them to my iggy list. I use one myself, but my timer is set to 5 mins, with my droid in another section of the city. ie: cantina area & starport.

For those of you opposing a barker droid 'mute', consider... is someone annoyed by your droid going to shop you anyway?

I'd rather it stick. Spaceports weren't built to be shopping centers, they were built for people to get from A to B unmolested, and I hate having to deal with people trying to sell me stuff every time I go there. Myhuge (and growing) ignore list makes it much more peaceful, but I can't do a thing about the annoying barker droids.

I don't see why getting around people's game filters should be a profession perk, I guess.

I'm all for being able to ignore barker droids. I bought one to try out, and *I* found it annoying. They repeat their line every 60 seconds, and it's not adjustable. I don't see a problem with people being able to mute them.

I'd also like to mute vendor barking. I HATE walking into a shop or mall and having every damn vendor there say something to me, stuff that's almost never helpful or in character. (When it is, it's not so bad. Especially if it's in characte.r) Then if you so much as blink, they start talking to you again. Shops like that, I make note of and don't go back. Two bark limit, please!

@desktopsaki

What are you talking about, I think you mix sth! How big is the chance that a barker droid says sth right in the moment you enter the starport??? Even if there are 10 barker droids in front of the starport, there will be only 1 or max 2 that say sth exactly in the 10 sec you are around. So what are you talking about? You have a problem with these macro spammers at the starport, not with the barker droids!

I also hate this spamming at the starport, thats why I use my barker droid! ... and by the way, you never find more then 3 barker droids at a starport on Chimaera, on Coronet Starport where I have my barker there's only one more (and this crap is copying my patrol points).

I wonder, why nobody uses Barker droids. After thinking about it for ... 2 seconds .... there are 2 possibilities:

a) All merchants need their combat droid at the same time and so they can't drop their barker droid
b) All merchants think that barker droids are unefficient because they only talk every minute.

Mmmh, tough question ... may I call somebody? Desktopsaki, you better should use your discussion power to vote for a "no-macro zone" in front of the Starports. There already exists a municipal zone around cities where you can't place houses, what you/we need is a No-Macro Zone inside the cities So we would get rid of the spammers in front of the Starports and the "tip me money to get on my cool tiplist" spammers inside the cantina! So we could kill 2 flys at the same time ... or sth like that =)

Oh my gosh.... a no-macro zone!!! That's the best idea I've ever heard! (well, a no-speech-macro zone maybe)
My character bio starts with the following statement "--I hate advertisers, you people should be banned--"
I hope no one assumes I mean barker droids in that, because especially after reading these, I have absolutely no problem with barker droids! They're quite cool, provided they're well placed!

I'mma gonna get me 'un o' those!

I'll be using it to announce when I'm in the Salon though, as I am a Master ID and not quite so industrious as the lot of you. Leads me to a question though: do I have to be master Merchant to leave a waypoint in the barker droid or can I do that with Advertising IV? No need to answer that, I'll likely find out soon enough.

Anyway, I'm drawing away from the point... No muting Barker Droids!
