I have Hiring 2. If I surrendor that skill, what happens to my Ithorian Vendor and all the items on him?

You know you aren't supposed to be able to keep him if you surrender the skill so why do it? If it works you are taking advantage of an exploit tht will be fixed eventually. If it doesn't you lose all your inventory. Just remove the inventory and delete that vendor if you are giving up the skill? Why try to get away with anything?

I agree with Doc, you are asking us, in a nutshell, can I keep him, knowing it is an exploit. I do not know what would happen, I hope that he vanishes into thin air, leaving only his clothes on the ground. But I suspect he will not.

Take your stuff out of him, back out of the skill and see, given that is being brought to my attention again, I will ask the devs to look into it, and fix it.

uh hey DOC...i'm not trying to get away with anything. So take your false assumptions and shove 'em. I was hoping that the **edit** vendor would resort back automatically or something to the Hiring I vendor choices and I wouldn't have to try and figure out a way to store the 200 items I currently have on the **edit**ing vendor.

I wasn't trying to exploit, NonSherlock. And If I knew the vendor would dissapear, I wouldn't have asked this **edit**ing question. So back the **edit** up.

There..sorry for my language and anger, but I don't take kindly to people accusing me of attempting to exploit. I go out of my way not to exploit anything.

Marqie I'll be calmer with you. However, as stated in my recent post above this, I don't take kindly to accusations of exploits. I didn't get the reputation I have, by being a cheating exploiter. I need the skill points back to continue up my tailor tree. That is my only reason for surrendering the skill. My only point of this question was asked because I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of coming up with storage for 200 items I have on the vendor. I don't care if it's a **edit** robot that comes up after the Ithorian disapears, I was just wondering if my inventory would stay on the vendor.

I thought it was a simple question. I'm sorry you guys look for the worst in people.

Personally, I find this an interesting question.

To get that vendor, someone had to earn the experience and expend the skill points. Therefore the original acquistion of the vendor was as per game design.

With many other professions, the release of a skill box is associated with a set of skill enhancements that go away when you release it. In this case, this is an object you earned.

I don't personally feel that releasing the skill box automatically requires you to lose the object (obviously you cannot make a new one). Perhaps this is one of the problems with the Merchant profession, there is very few bonuses associated that are beneficial to keep the skill box (i.e. plus 2 lots, etc).

As a poor analogy, if I finish Master Artisian, make 40 schematics of a 1000 each for control units, then drop the master skill, should those schematics disappear. I earned them.

What about going up the architect line to get the ability for medium houses, make 200 of them and then drop the skill?

Personally, I still plan to finish Master Merchant this week, then start dropping the skills due the basis problem that there is really no value in holding those skill boxes at this time.

If it was me, I'd keep the vendor as a symbol of a profession I hoped was going to be fun, but lacked any real value. I already have a C3PO core unit, a C3PO droid, maybe I'll add a C3PO vendor to fill out my collection.

And before anyone gets toobend out-of-shape, does it really impact someone's else's selling ability if your competitor has a neat looking vendor too? If you start dropping Hiring or Advertising, you lose those abilities, but a vendor is a vendor in the end. The looks have no effect on if anyone buys anything from you.

Personal flames not withstanding I stand by my original statement. To have these vendors you have to have the skills for them. If you give them up you give up the vendors. If it doesn't work like that now it will as soon as people start doing it.If you don't give it up it means that every craftsman goes up the merchant tree then gives it up after they have what they want. That is unfair to those who keep their skills. The merchant profession has enough trouble without a loop hole that allows people to keep the benefits of the merchant tree without actually taking skill points for it. We have been pushing here on this forum for some help in making our profession more meaningful and more useful in the player economy a lookhole like this would make this task more difficult.

The truth is no one here seems to know what will happen we just assume that the devs didn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about it because they don't seem to have spent ANY time thinking out the Merchant Profession at all. At least not in the past six months to a year.

Thank you Doc...that was all I was really asking. I could care less what my vendor looks like, I just didn't want to have to move all that inventory elsewhere and then back again to a lower tier vendor.

Also,

The other poster makes interesting points and comments. Honestly it really is the same thing, only the master artisan drop would prove much more beneficial than a hiring skill drop. If you could save all those schematics (and I doubt you'd be able to make as much as you like because of shifting resources), that would seem to be a little unfair. A fine line there. I wouldn't call it an exploit, but it is a area where the devs should say, it's either this way, or it isn't this way, then make the change.

Anything that that requires a skill to use must become inoperable when that skill is surrendered. That doesn't include being able to use factory schematics (it doesn't take any sklil to use them anyone with a factory can use a schematic I make). Any other way is an invitation for people to exploit the system by gaining skills they know they can't keep just to get the benefits.

But honestly I do think you should have to move your inventory. Making life changing decisions requires thought and dedication (even in an MMORPG). The best way to do this btw is to create the new vendor first then move the stuff over a bit at a time using your inventory. I've done this three times this week. (Once because I can't spell the word "Rifle" correctly most of the time)

Also if you are giving up skills make sure you don't have too many vendors for the skill level you are at. We don't know what that would do either but it should make your newest vendor inoperable to prevent you from cheating the vendor count.

I tried that myself last week because I didn't know how many vendors I could have. Once I reached my limit (was 3), It wouldn't allow me to make any more.

Doc,

Sorry I snapped at you earlier too. That's not the usual me.

Honestly I believe you when you say now that you were asking if it would revert. But that isn't how your post was worded or your follow up. If you had asked us directly if it would revert to a previous vendor type we would have probably just said "Doubtful" and moved on. But you seemed to be asking us if it would just stick around wihtout changing.

I am, and I am sure many other Master Merchants are,a little sensitive to any area where our already weak profession could be exploited by the craftsman/Merchant to gain our meager enhanced abililties without having to use their skill points for them. I am not saying this is you, I am saying that our reaction is going to be pretty strong when we feel this is possible. Giving up 60 skill points for what we now have in merchant is painful and it means that I can't do some other things, but I am dedicated to be a merchant in this game for some reason still unknown to me and I will defend the profession very very vocally.
