Thread: If I surrendor merchant skill back (Hiriing)...what happens to my Ithorian Vendor?
well, I'm glad the profession has a defender. Just so you know, I'm a merchant too. So I consider myself in that class too. ( I had 5 boxes filled, now 4). My question was an honest question. I wasn't asking if it reverted, I was just asking what happened (SEE TITLE OF THREAD). The reversion was my own possible idea of the outcome. Since I didn't know, I asked the question.
But by all means, don't stop defending our profession. We need you. Just try not tojump to conclusions about motivations of your fellow merchants. ![]()
thanks for your answer. This is what would have been nice to see earlier, yet I will take it.
I don't take this game personally. I take accusations personally and when you said you agreed with Doc, I read it as you agreed that I was trying to exploit. Sorry, but that's how it came out, regardless of your intention.
As to how many times this question has been asked...well I can say this....How would you have searched the knowledge base for an answer, hmm?
I looked up surrendor hiring skills and got over 9 pages. I looked at a couple of the higher percentage and either nobody had answered, or they were'nt applicable to my question. Forgive my ignorance. My ignorance was THE REASON that I asked the question. While I'm glad I got the answers I needed, and some decent discussion from both you, Doc, and the other poster...it would have been nice to bypass accusations, and get right to the answer.
Ben,
In all honestly the reason your post seemed to be hoping for an exploit is that yourlater stated hope that it would revert to a different type of vendor is soalien to how this game works as to never occur to me.That left me with only two options:
1. The vendor won't work or will vanish.(You obviously didn't want that to happen)
2. The vendor will work (obviousy preferable to #1 for anyone with stock stuck in it)
Hoping for #2 would be using an exploit since it clearly shouldn't work that way.You admittedly had another idea that the vendor would convert itself somehow to something else. Since you can't even change the name or move the vendor once it is placed the chance of it changing to a different type of vendor is almost nonexistant. It never occured to me. Should it have? I don't know. Should I have assumed you meant would all the items would appear in your inventory? Nothing in the game would lead me to that assumption either.
I restate: If I drop the Hiring skill that gives me access to a certain type of vendor what will happen? Will it just stop working? Or will it change into a vendor that I have the skills for?
That question is clear implies that you want it to revert to a different vendor and are not hoping or assuming it will continue to work as is and doesn't leave any room for misunderstanding. I am sorry you can't see how someone would misunderstand your meaning with the first post you made and the second one.
And in this entire thread I have completely avoided making any personal flames or rants at you or really been impolite to you in any way. I am sorry you are sensitive that someone you don't know might THINK you might use an exploit.
Doc,
Well, while I maintain that my question is clear, you have supplied a valid and logical counterpoint to my argument. Therefore, I am now satisfied. ![]()
Barring unforseen circumstances, I consider this debate now closed.

I would be interested to know what happens if you surrender a management skill level with a vendor count that is too high, but the random chance that it might bug a vendor that has merchandise on it means that it is very dangerous to attempt this unless you are getting out of the vendor business all togehter.

I'll let someone else try that out. I wouldn't want to have all the "fun".
Lol just read this post, people up in arms over a minor thing.
A month or so ago I had hiring II on my main character. I decided to make my second character a merchant and surrendered my merchant skills on my main all the way up to business III, which means I should have been able to only have a single vending machine. When I surrendered I had a Trandoshan NPC vendor as well as a vending machine. I didn't care too much if I lost my lizard, but I didn't bother to delete him. My Trandoshan did not disappear or convert to a machine, and I was still able to manage him.
Eventually I fired my Trandoshan and now manage my NPC vendors from my second character. What I don't know is if I would have lost him or the ability to manage him had I surrendored business III, or if this is still something you can do a month later.

Heh. I have a couple of weaponsmith associates that might be willing to test that theory when the time comes so maybe we'll let them be the Guinea pigs on that one.

A minor thing to you maybe but your post seems to say that our fears are realized and that it is possible to keep NPC vendors (and multiple vendors) when you don't have the skill points to have them. That isn't a minor issue for the merchant class. It is a major exploit possibility that will further damage the abililty of merchants to make a living in the player economy. And if this still works as described above getting it fixed is very important.
I agree there is a potential exploit here, and that it should probably be addressed. However, I wouldn't burn the original poster at the stake for not wanting to delete his vendor right away. It is a pain in the butt to get your stuff off vendors, and wanting a little extra time to move your stuff from your Ithorian to your vending machine or whatever is not unreasonable.
I also don't think this is anywhere nearthe biggest problem for the Merchant class. The fact that there is no real advantage to having an Ithorian with efficiency IV over a random NPCis a much bigger problem IMO.
Honestly I don't care about the difference between Hiring II and Hiring I. The fix should be because of principle not serious injury to the profession. However having multiple vendors, having NPC vendors is an advantage gained by obtaining and MANTAINING merchant skills. If this can be exploited it is an serious issue because craftsmen will start to obtain those skills then give them up and keep selling their products without the help of the merchant class. That isn't fair and it will only make the already bad position the merchant is in in the player economy worse.
That being said I didn't suggest burning anyone at the stake. I simply stated that if you know you aren't supposed to have a vendor you should empty it and delete it before giving up the skill. I know it is a pain to empty vendors I've done it three times this week to move merchandise from one place to the other. I feel the pain of anyone having to do it. But that doesn't mean that it is right to take advantage of a hole in the code to keep something you know you shouldn't have. (This is NOT personally directed at anyone it is a general philosophy about how to deal with a situation where it is possible you couldwind up exploiting a bug)
Ben, if you would, do it, let us know what happens. That way next time it is asked, we can say Yes/No/Maybe because no one has ever come back and shared the outcome.
You are a pioneer in a cookie cutter world, because merchant is such a good class, very few would ever give the power and glory up that a merchant has *Flexes* (Man that was hard to say, and not giggle)
