If there's one thing most people hate.. It's sifting through vendor, after vendor, after vendor...
I am starting this petition to solve that problem and also help our entire economy in a big way...
I think it would be a HUGE benefit if the devs looked into placing a "merchant terminal" at every major city. A skill could be placed in the merchant tree allowing for "merchant terminal advertisement".
Players then could simply walk up to the merchant terminal, and use it like a bazaar terminal, select planet and general region they want to search on, then select type of item they want to purchase. Then sift through a list of all items being sold by vendors in that selected area!
This would potentialy be a VERY easy addition to the game, and would save players countless hours of sifting through empty vendors....
If you agree that this addition to the game would benefit SWG greatly, and deserves the devs attention, please /sign..
Thx for your time.

Great idea. So long as they have to travel to the shop to buy the stuff - otherwise player cities would be even deader!

Ya vendors would remain the same... It'd operate the same as if you purchased a bazaar item and it was located on another planet.. You'd have to travel to that terminal.. The items wouldn't be stored on the merchant terminal, they'd be stored on the vendors as always, they'd simply be advertised via the merchant term ^-^

There was a design for a simular search system in one of the revamp proposals I submitted to the devs some time ago. I don't know what they thought about it.
Edited to add the original entry in our Issues/Suggestion list:
8 New Feature Global Item Listing (Searching)
The global map advertising is a great tool for getting people into your shop to browse your wares however many merchants would like a global item listing that could be searchable and would allow them to compete with the bazaar for sales. One method would have a “premium auction” feature in Merchant that would allow merchants to place items (for a fee) into the global listings that would be in a separate tab on the bazaar terminals. This would be searchable and show the item details and the price listed. Purchasing the item could still be handled at the local vendor, this method would be an advertising method and not a sales method

It would be nice when I'm looking for a specific resource to not have to go to several hundred different vendors looking for, say, Lidium Extrusive Ore.

The box the skill should be under should be novice merchant, it would be better if it were an addvertising terminal, the merchant could write whatever they wanted in there add, there should be a format for a product and price sheet of course, and there should be a fee, it should also be planetary as well, there would be a selection for galaxy wide, and to list your ad under that, it would be an extra fee, there would be a skill mod as well to reduce the fee as your ability in merchant improved, I could see merchants placing adds for nonmerchants as well, mabey in game auctions, has some potential there.

The architecture for this is already in place. Simply apply the code for the Advertising tree into this, with the option to advertise not in Novice Merchant, but Advertising 1. At this skill box, you can advertise up to 25% of your current max vendors on the terminal. With each skill box increase this 25% (50% total max vendors at Advertising 2, etc.,). The reduction in advertising vendors on the global map comes at Advertising 4, implement it to apply to the vendor terminal as well. As far as how that all works, it's seemingly easy to implement. They already have the bazaar terminals accessing the bazaar database for queries, shouldn't be hard to implement a terminal to access the private vendor databases and return query requests. One thing I would rather see is to be able to advertise galaxy-wide, you MUST have Master Merchant. Only a master of their profession should have the fame and name recognition across the galaxy and Empire.
