How exactly do you earn Merchant exp? I noticed that it slowly goes up by itself, but is that they only way? I would think you would get more xp by selling stuff or something.

You do get more XP every time you sell something. You also get more XP the more items you have listed, and the faster your turnover rate is.

So, wait a sec. If I were to stock my vendors with just a bunch of junk, keep the house private, and just have my friends come over and buy it all, give them their money back, restock the vendors, and repeat, it would give me a lot more exp than if my merchants just sat around scratching their butts with junk on them? If so, seems like a cost-free way to grind merchant exp (well, except the cost of your sanity and your friends if you did it too much).

Here's some info. You only get xp once per session. If you sell 10,000 items to the same person yu get 50xp. If you sell 1 item to someone you get 50xp. I believe it's got like a 30-60 minute delay between gaining 50xp so you can get xp more then 1 time per person but after this time delay.

Is there any truth to the idea that you get extra XP just from people paying an entry fee on your house, even if it's only a 1 credit fee? I saw a post to that effect, and tried it, but can't notice any appreciable difference. Then again, Merchant XP gains seem practically random to me anyhow....

i also tried this, because i am so poor i could tell how meny people where visiting my shop but not much more than this. It was just this guys mind playing tricks on him. I saw no benefit to this what so ever.

the ideas here about how you get exp are not exactly correct. here is how you get exp:

1) You get an amount of exp every ~50 minutes based on the number of vendors you have. I am not sure how much exactly but so far i see about 450 exp every 50-60 minutes

2) You get 50 exp every time a unique person*accesses* your vendor every 15 minutes. They do NOT need to buy anything and it does not depend on how many items you have.

The best way for a Merchant to get exp is to get a lot of traffic to their shop. They do not need to have a lot of items in their shop, they do not need to get people to buy items from their shop, they do not need to do a lot of business with their shop, they simply need people to open up the vendor and look at their items to get the 50 exp.

So in order to gain any merchant XP whatsoever, you have to have a vendor? (i.e. you can't use the bazaar)?

Are you sure Thinker? I've seen large XP bonuses whenever I've turned over a large amount of items. Perhaps its just the customers coming by...

it is very likely that you see that large bonus becuase that is the exp you get every ~50 minutes or so.

If you only get xp from your own vendors and not from the bazaar, how are you supposed to get

the xp to learn novice merchant in the first place?

(you can only place vendors with the novice merchant skill)

You must get xp from bazaar sales, its the only way to get started on the merchant skill tree.

You get 150 xp every hour forevery vendorhave a vendor on the floor

You get 50 xp per time someones pays the access fee (every 15min)

You get 50 xp for ONE! person looking on a vendor of yours (must look at the vendors items) and it only works for 1 vendor per person.

--

You get nothing for someone buying anything, and you get nothing for puttin items on the vendor (Xp wise) which is a joke to this proffesion..

Im 4/3/0/4 after 4 weeks of being a merchant (this includes al lthe people comming to pay my access fee and look at 1 vendor when they are shopping)

-Merchant is not a fast grind, you will be in it for a long time and you will lose a lot of money if you just rent out the merchants to guild members because you dont have things to sell on your own (Like ME!!)
