I been reading though the forums and came across one in the doctors forum about why doctors should have vendors to sell their warez, I think a lot playersnot just doctorsare up in arms that soon when the merchant profession is fixed all those without the skills in merchant or at least business 3 will lose their vendors. I belive in the long run the merchant revamp it will make the game better for all players. For one it will stop a lot of players just using them for stoage space and them that have put in the time for the profession will make great merchants and keep their vendors well stocked up. And also why should some uber combat template master also own a shop, we merchants can't fightunless we have the skills.

I belive that their should of fixed this long time ago but instead of fixing broken profressions they have worked on the jedi side of things, we have all had our cakes and eaten it.BTW my other charater is a master merchant selling my bio-engineers Items.

Hello

I totally agree if you dont have the business management skills you shouldnt have a Vendor period.... This should come out during a hotfix or next patch... Give some warning for those that cant lose millions of credits on the vendors....

Second of all I believe that at Master Merchant we should get +2 or +3 vendors at least +1 there isnt any reason RIGHT NOW (6/5/04) to go master Merchant

Thanks

Anyone ever have a garage sale?

Anyone can sell almost anything without having to go to school for it. But, will they make as much money as a person who has gone to school for it? No. In most cases they wont.

Anyone can pick up a knife and stick something with it right? But will they be able to wield it accurately and with the same force as a trained combatant? No. In most cases they can't.

So... My point is simple. Let people have vendors. But change the way those vendors work for people who DO NOT have the Artisan skills. I would think a few simple tweaks to NON Artisan Vendors would enable the true merchants to still have their edge, and let non crafting types, such as hunters and medics and the like some limited ability to sell their loot, stims and harvested materials.

A few ideas to toss around...

1) Make Non Artisan vendors charge a small percentage of the sale? This would represent the lack of efficiency in marketing and sales tactics in non merchants. A true merchant knows what he can squeeze out while the "garage salesman" is just getting rid of spare junk for some coin.

2) Limit the number of items on these vendors to something in the realm of 40-50 items. Since, a non merchant isn't really "opening up shop" they are mearly spreading their wares across their lawn in hopesthat the casual passer-by will purchase something.

3) Do not allow the ability to "take offers" for items from shoppers. Only allow the vendor to be a one way avenue of sale not a tool for buying.

I think this would tone down the non artisan vendor enough to give the merchants the edge by a large margin, whilst leaving us non crafting folk a chance to peddle our junk without resorting to Ebay like Baazars.

whatever the developers do in the end they absolutly must let everyone in game have some sort of notice period like an in game email or a patcher message with a good week maybe more notice period to deal with these changes this is the only fair way and includes those people who have been exploitinig and dont have merchant skills.

I say this is what the bazar is for. Better yet, this should force player participation,. Like this, Combat folks goet nice things, crafters that are not merchants make great things. take them to merchants to sell, the merchants can then sell the goods on his venders. This kind of interaction i feel would enrich SWG gameplay.

The non qualified vender issue is not being addressed in this upcoming patch is it?

But how often do you have a garage sale by putting all your stuff on your lawn and then leaving home? Even without vendors there is nothing that keeps you from selling things. You can auction them, or you can sell them to people one on one. The advantage of a merchant is that they can sell things 24 hours a day without having to be there by using vendors. There are some other very minor things like reduced fees (Once we are successful, how many of us worry about fees anyway?), but the heart of the merchant profession is being able to sell things through vendors.

This has to be simply the best ever suggestion I have heard for the non merchant vendor situation. I have completed some small area research within my 'group' within the game and all pretty much agree that they do not know many master merchants or merchants at all. Many of them have vendors for use by the guild etc with low quantities of items and loot etc that they sell in this way. Many of them sell their old guns and kit that they no longer need much in the same way or theme as a garage sale. Instead of looking at this as a negative, please mould this idea as a positive towards tackling the merchant issue.

My own thought are that if this patch goes ahead without change the mercyhant profession will suffer not only from the limit but more from lack of custom... I would rather go to theed or coronet to get my stuff than travel round looking for a vendor where I need good quality items.

Buying or selling in crates and packs is also difficult at this must have either an element of trust or in the case of crates of chairs and candles for instance, some method of seeing what you are buying.

Bazaar is not an option. I personally have around 100 Vibro motors, stocks, barrells, loot kit pieces and geo cubes etc that I will be selling. I think I will expect more than 6k for them on average. I dont think increasing the bazaar limit will either help or be the answer either....

SImply put - My view is.......

Get rid of all empty vendors that have less than 25 items for sale on the vendor for more than 2 weeks...

Allow non merchant vendors as listed above..... but limited and not keep them in the same way as they are allowed at present.... 50 item limit is very reasonable for loot etc.

Drop the limit of items that can be placed on each vendor to 400.

Increase the amount of items that can be stored in houses.

Increase the amount of items that can be in crates.

Increase resource stacks to 250k from 100k it is currently.

I doubt many but the hard core "I am merchant and no-one else can have an opinion that differs" players will have a HUGE problem with any of these. Vendors should not only be for merchants, they should simply be different.

Don't flame an opinion you dont like. This makes you look immature. Think of a better (non negative) solution and we may collectively, working as a community move forward on this emotive issue.

Have you ever tried to kill something with a knife without Novice Brawler? Everyone has a vendor. 6k limit and 25 item (number might be wrong) vendor that anyone can view. There's your vendor, the bazaar

Good Grief, Slayne....

I have perfectly legit master merchant vendors with less than 25 items on them but with something on them. One is my conveniently located resource buyer so that the resource barons don't have to go all the way to Dant to offer it to my shop vendor. This vendor shoud be destroyed? Says who?

Please no resource stack size increases. They need to take up space somehow. If anything the stacks may be too large already if you think of being able to store 150 times 100,000 kg of resources in a SMALL house.

The number of items storable in houses needs to be increased only after the resource situation is dealt with. It should not be made easier to store large bulk quantities of resources for later use.

Some of the crate sizes do need to be increased. I'm with you on that one. I can't think of a reason for any crate being less than 25. But I'm not so totally sure I want crates over 50 either.

Some of the hoarded, rat-nested items in the game just need to be deleted. This is how the devs plan to accomplish it. They will fail if they don't do something about the vendor space taken by non-crafted items in packs. They will also fail if they don't do something about cross-lotting at the same time.

I reckon all players, no matter what novice profession they have, should be able to create 1 vendor in their house(s), but that vendor will only operate like the bazaar and have the same limits except able to charge what they like without the 6k credit limit, and without the auction ability, also including the 20 credit listing fee too. So combat chars who have completed the Corellian Corvette and have acquired that cool vehicle schematic will be able to sell it for a decent price, to their local Master Artisan. 6 Million credits, not 6k, is what is needed to sell that bad boy! As if they're unable to sell it, they'll have to destroy it.

You're out of time, SOE The whole 2.5 months shouldn't have been. The game was fine up until Nov 15th. If the CU was worked on, instead of devoting time to the NGE (including the many months prior to November), the game could possibly be totally bug free by now.

My account cancels on 2nd Feb, which was a waste as only played game for 1 day to get the life day gifts, will be resubbing when creature handler, Bio-engineer, scout, and ranger return, oh and the FS village.

This is a case of game balance outweighing (I hate this) RL comparisons.

As it stands now in the game anyone CAN pick up a knife and stab someone, or pick up a pistol and shoot them. You do not need Novice anything to do this (by the time I first purchased Novice Marksman, I already qualified for Pistols 1 due to all of the 'accidential' hunting I did as a novice Artisan during my surveying runs). Likewise, you can sell stuff in the game without so much as Novice Artisan. There are the bazaars, not to mention the ol' Starport Spam.

However, if you want to use the LLC's or Vibro Axes, you need training, ala skill boxes. Just as if you want to use a vendor, you need training as well. No one should be allowed to use Merchant granted abilities without having and retaining the corresponding Merchant skill. Otherwise, I want to be able to sill FD, Rez people and use my Unarmed Combo 3 from all the associated professions that I have mastered and since dropped.

AV-21 SCHEMATICS go for 6M on your server? Wow they duped a lot of credits there. They're only worth 200-350k on my server.
