Thread: Known vendor bugs
Current known vendor bugs:
1. Ad Barking, learned at Advertising I, works sporadically. After being turned on, the vendor will bark for a while, then cease all barking until the merchant turns off ad barking, then restarts it. This does not appear to be related to any other event.
2. Custom Ad Barking, learned at Advertising II, doesn't work. No dialog box appears with which a merchant can compose a custom advertisement for their vendor.
3. NPC Vendors, gained at Novice Merchant, appear to have bugged maintenence costs. Upkeep is 1, always. This makes the best vendor in the game, also the cheapest. Using any other vendor is a waste of cash. I am guessing that this is unintentional.
4. It is not possible to place a vendor in anyone elses home, even when you have vendor privledges granted.
5. There is no way to retrieve merchandise from a vendor that has been deleted, although the merchandise lists for the region and you can manipulate it from another of your vendors. Many merchants have unretrievable merchandise floating in the ether.
5a. This bug goes beyond the merchant but also to the players who have "offered" things on the vendor, been rejected, but not yet picked their merchandise back up. Their merchandise goes to this limbo as well with them never able to retrieve it.
6. Some merchandise, for reasons unknown, becomes unretrievable from a vendor. Neither the merchant trying to retrieve from the stock room, nor a player purchasing the item, can retrieve it.
7. If you give a vendor to another player to be set in their house (See item D.) that vendor will sometimes become undroppable and undestroyable in the other player's inventory. The only way then for the player to rid himself of the vendor is to offer the vendor to a vendor and sell it back to the merchant who created it. This will allow the merchant to retrieve the bugged vendor and destroy it. (I would suggest that vendors not be tradeable, simply fix permissions so merchants can place vendors in permitted homes.)
8. The planetary map advertising must be manually reset after each instance of server downtime. So if a merchant can't be on when her server comes back up, their listing won't appear. They have to be at the vendor to reinitialize the planetary map listing.
9. Sales emails are not occuring for some players. There is no notification email being sent.
10. Vendor item count limits tied to house limits, therefore severely limiting the number of items you sell and still decorate your house.
11. No verification on Destroy button. This is especially bad as Destroy is right next to Status.
12. Resouce containers that have been split will sometimes dump ALL resources of the same type back on a retrieve, leaving invalid/empty resource listings that cannot be removed from the vendor.
If I've missed anything, please post in response.
Number 7 has been fixed by preventing vendor trades with other players. However, vendor trading was a symptom, not the problem. The problem was stated in number 4, merchants cannot place vendors in other houses even though they have been given permission by the owner. If number 4 had been working to allow placement, number 7 would not have been a problem.
And now, lucky number 13...
13. Vendors are starting to become unresponsive and must be deleted and replaced. In the past two days I have lost 3 vendors that just ceased to respond to anyone. This means that all of my merchandise on those vendors has been lost.
But more importantly, it means that the one single thing that the vendor profession has, is not trustworthy enough to use.
Please use caution about what you place on a vendor. I had two vendors with merchandise go dead overnight and one vendor with no merchandise went dead yesterday.
Supposedly #3 was fixed as well, but only on new NPC vendors. I personally am unwilling to delete one of my pre-patch vendors to find out if this is true or not as the pre patch ones still are broken (thank god).
I would almost add a 14 to the list that says that vendors currently cost too much but this isn't a bug, more a balance issue.
I would like to add that I have personally experienced ALL of these bugs. Thank you.
(and lost 40K credits worth of stuff)
Woot! Welcome to Beta 4!!

I had a customer get bit by this bug.
I theorize that if the originalstack you split the others from is sold, that's what triggers bug #12. What I've been doing now is, after splitting off the stacks to be sold, drop the original stack onto another stack of the same resource, so that theoriginalstack no longer exists.
Any thoughts?
I had traded my vendor with a friend so he could drop it in his house, But he couldn't. Then he went to trade it back andcould not! Now I Can not create a vendor because he can not delete it out of his inventory!
SOE has not responded to my support tag and I Am still without that extra NPC vendor for like a week.
Another bug to add to the list:
Vendors don't wear clothing you give them when you have Hiring IV skill.
Ok, I'm not a merchant but got Business 3 so I can set up a merchant in my house. Here's my story about what I found out today (repost from main forum):
Ok, I'm a doctor.
I did missions like crazy for over a week. Got enough money to buy a medium size house, some furniture and a good spot to place it.
After having done that, I got myself Business level 3 of the Artisan tree to be able to charge entrance fees and place a vendor to sell some medical stuff on and some low level (but handy) artisan stuff.
When I place my vendor, the maintenance rate on it is 1. Yes correct, the rate is just ONE. Very nice, I can afford that. So I place some stuff on it (about 60 items in total) and am happy about my newly aqcuired vendor.
I log off for the night, after having sold a few stimpacks through my vendor (yay, it's working), happy as a little kid for christmas.
However, this morning I log on and do my routine check of maintenance on everything I own. Getting at the vendor I almost collapse. The rate changed to 30! Yes, I'm not kidding, my vendor was charging me as much as a wind generator!
To keep it from burning down, I put in some cash and try to figure out the cause of the problem. Do some other stuff in the mean time, then go back to my house to check the rate again after about an hour.
Low and behold: the rate was now 10! *boggle*
This time I check with friends of mine and they all claim they have a rate of 1 on their vendors. Since I'm not rich (after having spend all my money on my house, decorating it and creating one medic room) this is a pain. So I decided to pick up some missions and file a CS ticket.
After about 30 minutes I go back to my house and find that the rate is now 9!
Being so annoyed by this, I decide to take all my wares out, destroy it and place a new one.
YAY, back to a maintenance rate of 1.
Happy me.
Only to find that after 30 minutes it was back at a rate of 9 again. :/
Ehm, is this supposed to work this way? Or am I the sole victim in this game of a hassling vendor that is trying to rip me off?
Kivech
I did /bug this and added comments to the CS ticket btw.
1. Something has to be done about item limits in houses. Either (a) increase it drastically or (b) make vewndors track contents outside of the house limit.
There is no point in fixing Vendor rights when 250 items is the limit for people sharing a structure.
2. Vendors need the ability to sell items one at a time out of a crate with the volume of the crate only affecting maintenance and storage. This was discussed years ago, but never came through. There should be a reason for merchants to want factory produced wares, and a more sane way to maintain stocks.
3. The friggin purchased items vanishing when a person changes regions bug needs to got NOW.
4. Maintenance seems currently broken, which is fine, because 5k/day for Ad 3 is way outta whack.
5. Ad 2 doesn't work. You never get a prompt for the custom text.
6. Remove Vendor needs an "Are you sure" box, or an auto refund of items/maintenance.
7. Email notification needs to go away. We need just a tabular log of sales. The spam makes email all but useless as a communication tool now. Barring that, the confirmation email needs to specifiy WHICH vendor sold the item.
