Thread: Master Merchant mailing list idea.
This is an idea for well established vendors. People that actually live off the profession and aren't just holo-chasing.
At master merchant level people can request to be added to a system mailing list. This would be an option from the house or vendor control and could be initiated by the owner after a big vendor product listing or update. It would something the receiver requested of particular vendors they frequent. Maybe limit the size of the list, or send the mails during off hours. Since the update emails would be by request only, it be hard to abuse. It'd give vendors a way to give their loyal customers quick notice and give that added advertising good merchants need. The vendor would be unwise to abuse it as customers would soon ignore it or remove themselves from it if the updates weren't worth their time to run out to the vendor.

Ok. Flesh this out thought. How would I as a customer know that I can do that? Only Master Merchants will have the ability to send out the mailing list then it is going to be hit or miss if the vendor is owned by a master merchant. (And I think you would have to be on the vendor not the house since the house may or may not be owned by a Master Merchant)
I use a custom tool to parse my emails and create mailing lists, one that I hope to release soon with my friend Wes for everyone's use.
I gate my mailing list to those who make 20k purchases or more. These would be more serious buyers rather than mission-by-mission types. I email once or twice a week and I've only had one complaint inseven months of mailing. I removed that individual from the list and havent' looked back.
If a tool like this could be made, 'removing' people from the list shouldn't be a show-stopping issue. Anyone who doesn't want to be emailed, would probably respond via e-mail with a request to stop mailing.Worryingwhether or not they could figure out to take this obvious step is an insult to the intelligence of the player community.

Csin...this is the same community that can't figure out how to use the next items button....
I think this is a good idea but there would have to be an automated way to remove yourself as you say above. One that doesn't require you to go back to the shop. That might be tricky. But overall this is an intersting idea.
I don't know. That is the question. The answer is probably not because the chat server (that handles the email) is a separate system that isn't really connected to the game servers. Your client hooks to it separately I think. Now it is proably routine to get an SWG server to SEND email to you via this system but getting the server to act on emails back from you is probably a lot more difficult.
Why couldnt master merchants get some time of terminal in thier houses that act similar to guild management terminals. They could be advertising terminals instead.
It could work just like guild invites, you have to be at the shop to accept being added to the mailing list. The merchant could send out an email with the name of the reciever being mailinglist and everyone on the list recieves the email, just like putting guild in the reciver send messages out to the entire guild. To remove yourself you could use the command /mailinglist remove similar to the way one leaves a guild without having to be near the guild hall. Also the owner of the terminal can terminate you from the mailing list at any time as well.
