v.10 - New Version
-----

With this version, The Merchant's Buddy has been renamed to The Merchant's Friend. It's also been completely re-written:

* Added many more metrics.
* Added customer rating.
* Made adding partners easier.
* With some wonderful help, managed to parse the date correctly.
* Added a double-click option to the customers metrics view that displays all products the customer purchased.
* Added configuration files for loading, saving live directory and using archives.
* Added the ability to archive e-mails by year.
* Added the ability to filter data.
* Fixed column sorting to sort numbers and dates properly.
* Added proper help files.

Some things to note:

* The ability to load data from text or csv files has been removed from the program. In light of the way the program has changed, it doesn't seem to be necessary anymore (you can just load off of archives). It also opens the door to some future upgrades to the program that will include the ability to save off certain data to your in-game notepad for reference.

* I didn't get to as many of the export options as I wanted to, partly because I'm still largely learning how C# works. Therefore, the only two save options are to text files (tab delimited) and CSV files (comma delimited). Comma delimited files are openable by Excel. Future versions will have more exporting abilities.

* Filtering is fairly primitive, and doesn't do all that I want it to just yet. Future versions will have the ability to do regex filtering, and date-range filtering.

* Considering this version of the program has many, many more lines of code and is much more complex, I expect that there will be a sum of issues reported that I haven't yet caught. If you catch an issue, please fire off an e-mail with a screens-hot of the error and, if possible, the mails that cuased the error to [email protected], and I'll check into fixing the bug.

v.02 - Beta Bug Fix
-----

* Fixed error-checking for a few instances that would cause exceptions.
* Fixed .CSV files. Previously, they wouldn't open properly in Excel. Now they will.
* Placed into a proper installer.

Oooh, this looks fun. Just downloaded and installed but will have to wait for the servers to come back to life to sort out my /mailsave command.

I hope they hurry up!

Ok, I love this program. There is a slight error/glitch with the date system (probably because I'm using the day/month/year and it doesn't like the fact its being told there are 16 months!) but its easy to ignore and work around.

The export data option works great for me and means I can print out a restocking list to work from. Its already made life so much easier and I've only been using it one day!

*hugs for Illiya*

Great program! I'd been using another program that was posted on this forum. It, too, was extremely useful, but this one's better still!

I especially like the no-fuss way it deals with "current" and "archived" mail - lets me update my inventory spreadsheet easily *and* keep track of historical data and customer history!

Wunderbar!!!! Five Stars! Two Thumbs Up!

But you should let us give you some money for it! It's worth it!

Hehe, no no, I can't charge for something I did mostly for fun.

I found some glitches with the my purchases section that I'll be working on, but so far it's good not to see too many bugs reported. I'll also look into that date issue. It's supposed to change the date to what your computer displays, but maybe it doesn't like doign that when the computer's set to euro date/time stamps.

I live in the UK too and suffer that problem with the dates so perhaps it is that?

Otherwise I haven't noticed any major problems. Run in parallel to my existing system and so far it is adding correctly etc so I think I will switch to yours full time I love it!

Okay, so here's a question for everyone as I'm looking at future enhancements:

What aspect of being a merchant do you spend the most time on? What sorts of things would help you be more effective, restock faster and get around to the having fun part quicker than the 'mindless paperwork' part?

Hmm....I think for me it is probably the partner splits. It would be quite nice to be able to select an item from the sales list and allocate it to the partner rather than the current configuration method.

It would also be quite nice to generate a mail that can be copied into game (or sent rl) for each partner with their weekly sales report.

More as I think of it...

the partner splits for me. I have some vendors that pay tax and i want to keep track of that. Currently, because i am a bear of little brain, i haven't been able to figure out what format to use when i type in the names of the partners, or in this case vendors.

maybe a form to fill out for each one? or a way to note that some vendors pay tax and some don't?
