Thread: Vendor Search Doesnt Seem Like A Good Idea For Some Merchants Anymore..

Is it me, or is this vendor search thing working completely against some merchants??? Sure, it helps the customer find stuff, but whats the point of having it linked to a galactic search? I know a few friends that use to sell things at a resonable price on their planet, but now have to compete with merchants on other planets because of this search feature. I think it might be a better idea to limit the searches to the planet your on.

Doesn't matter what we think about it. We gave our opinion about how it should work and we were totally ignored.

I wouldn't say totally ignored. We were pacified, lead-on and dismissed!

Actually I like the idea, shows the merchants who overcharge for the same products so they get less buisness and compete with others. In all actuallitythat is how I figure my prices for items. I think it is just dumb to see (example only) a BE shirt melee/ranged def + whatever for 50k on one vendor and 200k on another one. If you were gonna buy this would you buy the 200k or the 50k if you saw them on the search?

Ideally, this is how capitalism works. However, some people are ok with making a 2 cpu profit and thus will get the buisness of the people who bother to do a vendor search and run out to BFE to get it. Flip side is, that not all people wanna have to run to the bizaar for every little thing. Thus, they will go to a local merchant to see if they have it first. Moral is... keep your vendor stocked, and let your guild know what you have.... unless you wanna compete w/Wal-Mart.

This is much better than being ignored.

I think the vendor search is great. As a consumer, it's helped me lots (I was really sick of shuttling in and out of 7 or 8 cities and going in and out of numerous shops just to not find whatever it is I was looking for). As a Master Shipwright, it's been critical to helping me build the customer base I'm acquiring. People see a part they need on my vendor in the search, so they come in. While they're there, they see four more parts that they think are too good not to buy, or we get to talking and they get me to do some custom work they've been wanting, or just ask me some general piloting question or question about the components. Point is; I have people coming to me because of the vendor search, and once they do, I make an effort to see that they come back. Now I have several folks that when they need something they PM me and ask if I have it or can make it, and don't even bother with the vendor search anymore.

imo the galaxy vendor search is havok for the merchants.

well, i liked more the old system where the people had shops and when well stocked customoers came back and back.

this days the whole system goes only in one single direction. cheapest price wins. period.

some people dont care about prices, why? cause they somehow exploit in most cases, aka x-server lot trades aka harvester farms which are not intended and seen as exploit.

such people have tonns of resources and push the items on market for a very low price. that is the flaw in the system we got.

sure for the customer it seems to be best at all to get everything cheapest as possible, but it dont give dedicated crafters the possebility to reach reasonable but good prices, now people who want sales are forced to go on line with the low cutters and/or lot exploiters, which makes prices to low. many seem to sell at like 1,5, to 2cpu which in my opinion cant count in the actual time the person spended, which should always be actually the major factor in pricings /shrug

i would prefer a removal of that vendor search and let people compete in old real manner, give possebilities to set up nice shops where customers like to come back instead of getting a wp to the cheapest vendor in the galaxy.

The Global Vendor Search is the best thing that has ever happened to my business. Prior to that, markets were locked up by the few very large crafting operations. I could compete but I had no means of advertising powerful enough to break in to the market. Now I do. It works wonders for me.

No, I don't have the cheapest prices in the market. I didn't break into the market by having the cheapest prices. As a matter of fact, the lot traders had me beat on prices by a significant margin. I needed the Global Vendor Search so that people could see that I existed. Then I created a nice convienent shop with a winning combination of goods. The Search brought in customers, my selections and service brings them back.

The GVS lets customers see that the stats on my products make my pricing attractive. The cheapest prices usually go along with lousy ingredients. The GVS helped direct people to my shop who wanted high quality at a fair price for that quality.

In my opinion, sharing market information is good for a crafter.

I strongly opposed the GVS in its first draft (instant delivery etc.), but I really like the current situation. I would propose two changes though:

1) the saved WP shows the realvendor name, a lot easier to find the right one when the vendor is in a mall

2) instead of only showing the distanceto the vendor, give us the informationif the vendor is in a player city with shuttle port

I love the galaxy vendor search.

As a consumer I can locate exactly what I want without going to endless empty vendors. Being able to compare prices doesn't hurt either.

As a seller, I think it's helped business a lot. I name everyweapon as -Barbo- ItemName. This really helps when browsing the vendor search, people see all the items starting with-Barbo- and they come out to the shop.

My prices are not the cheapest, but the quality is very high and people can see from the listings that I have a ton of different weapons in stock.

I suspect that a lot of people's opinions of the GVS depends on what they sell or how they use it. I'm a WS and all my stuff is buried deep in the search. I really have no idea whether it helps me or not. I used to price my stuff fairly, but after 6 mos. out of the game, it turned out my prices were too cheap. Even as I have gradually raised my prices, business is still pretty good but I have no idea if people are finding me on the GVS or not. And after spending an hour or so searching weapons, I still have no idea what the averag market price is. I seem to be somewhere in the middle but there are many way above and way below me.

On the other hand, I find it invaluable as a consumer. It's allowed me to find many rare resources at reasonable prices. Plus, if I am looking for something very specific, say a Blue Rug Adhesive, it's a very valuable tool. And it would have taken me forever to outfit my ship with the gear I currently have without it.

The one thing I really wonder about is the people who use their vendors but still list it on the GVS. It seems really stupid to me. If the devs ever wanted to ban a bunch of people using vendors for that purpose, it would be really easy to find. And since they aren't selling anything, what is the advantage to listing it?

I have found that the venodr search did not impact me positively or negatively. In fact, I daisabled the option on my vendors as it simply did not do me any good. Most of my purcahses come from people who find me on the planetary map. As a buyer I do not use vendor search but prefer going to a planet and using the planetary map. It is simply the way i prefer to shop.
