Was just tending to my Micro Flora Farms, which were being guarded by a group of stormtroopers. Whilst paying in credits and power, got attacked by a couple of scyks. The stormtroopers took them out!
Although wasn't lucky the other day, logged into game by micro flora farms, and ended up in the cloning facilty, as soon as game loaded. Didn't even have enough time to leg it!
Wish npcs and creatures would leave non combatative chars alone (merchants and crafters). My wookiee char that was attending to to those micro farms, has no combat skills whatsoever (just equipped with a good bowcaster, and still not got even Novice Marksman), and only faction is -ve thug and +ve townsperson, from the odd evil hermit attacks.
The only time a non combat char should get attacked is if they have -ve faction, and to get that would have to go out of their way to attack a npc. I only got -ve as managed to defend myself from their attacks. Don't these npcs realise if they kill their Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths etcthey won't have any place to buy their weapons and armor etc from?

I'm in the same position -5000 thug from self defense, so now even in a busy starport they pick a fight with me.
Luckily I kept master marksman so it's not such a problem, but I agree that you shouldn't get -ve faction for defending yourself as a non combat profession.
A combat droid is a great help, I call my advanced probot when visiting my harvesters. In guard mode it intercepts and shoots back at any attackers, they target the droid and leave me alone.
If you thinkprobots are expensive at 55k(ish), consider the amount of loot you get from corpses. I was hit by a mob of 20+ Jabbas Theives in Mos Eisley. I eventually got incapped because no-one helped, but while I lay there awaiting a DB the droid took them all out as they lined up to attack. I looted 17.5k credits and 4 collectable structure parts from the corpses.

While I can understand how you feel not being able to deal with some badies that attack even non-combat classes. It would bring in a new exploit to just have the non-combat class people go in and do stuff so they won't get attacked. like think of the Vette or warren where you could go and do the missions without fear of being attacked. Thou it'ssemi -realistc to have things attack non combatants. its also a way to bring people together. thinking back on a friend I made in game who offered to pay me to go and kill some tusken raiders who camped out by 4 or 5 of his heavy harvesters. What made it cool was he hired 5 people who never met before to go and fight for him and offered us 10k each, It was when the game first started out so 10k was a lot of money and I had never seen a heavy harvester before. The Raiders took most of us out and we had to make a return trip to kill them off. but with that and the whole battle taking place in a sand storm it really made me feel like I was on Tatooine..
Just my take on things.
Peace.

Yeah true, but with things like the Corvette and Warren, it should be flagged that you're kind of trespassing, so then become available for being targetted, also if you're in a group or in close proximity of a combat player then you should then be flagged for being targetted, but if out in the open without anybody around, they should leave you alone, or something, or a random chance of being targetted, so you won't know if you're going to get attacked or not, but not being attacked every single time, don't these npcs ever get tired?
Also another idea is they only attack if you loiter around for a set amount of time, so you can have a bit of time to deal with the harvesters. Also could attack if a npc camp spawns and your harvester is built on a no build zone, caused by this camp. Once one of my harvesters was buried, as an imp camp spawned on top of it, had to wait for the rebel player to defeat the camp, to reset the lanscape back to normal, to get at my harvester!
Basically just needs a bit more clever programming.
As for getting other players to help out, could do, but now with vehicles can manage to dodge the attacks, pull them away, and quickly have a few secs to deal with the harvs, and eventually they get sorted, and quicker than searching for people willing to give a hand. Especially now, that there seem to be less people playing now than there used to be.

The other day I had decided to go sightseeing but as I'm loading into the starport I hear the combat music.
When I'm finally loaded, I'm being attacked by a NON-aggro NPC.
I've gone out of my way since day one to avoid getting on the bad side of the various factions and the only negative faction I have is with Corellian swoop gangs but they're aggro anyway so it's no big deal.
At least I had the good sense to get a buff before starting my trip just in case something random jumped me while I was driving around.I've got zero combat skill and thebuff was the only thing that kept me alive until I could run away.
It still sucks that you can be attacked while you're loading... moreso that you can be attacked by non-aggro MOBs.
Something needs to be done to make MOBs of any kind ignore you until you're loaded into the world.

I can completely relate to these stories. There's been a pack of slice hounds camping my wind gen's for a few days now it seems. No stormies to help this time though, but they did help me out a few weeks back witha pack of crazed durnies. How would they react if they knew I was a Rebel?

Hmm. It is annoying to get attacked while out checking harvs, factories and such, but it should be. It's a dangerous world out there. And back in beta at least, we used to hire a warrior type or few to escort us on harv runs or trips to places with no shuttleport. Escorted merchant caravans were fun. Adventure.

Ya, I'd love to do something like that. But all the warrior types are busy trying to be Jedi. No one would want to help a tailor run out to his harv.

When i didn't have much of any combat skills, I had to send out distress calls for aid. Guild members and citizens to my rescue. As it should be. Otherwise, I could always just come back later. Good times.
I see nothing wrong with the current system. If you want to stay safe, stay in the city.. and even there you get mugged once in a while.

I see nothing wrong with it either. It annoys me greatly when higher level mobs spawn on my factory or harvesters, but I'm annoyed at the mobs, not the game. It's all part of the fun and challenge of the game.
Ideally, get a little help from friends, guildmates, or some of your better known customers. Other option is to find a friendly mob (like stormies) that you know will help you if they see you in combat, and then run towards that group when the things camping your structures engage.A last resort is to peel them off while on a bike. Get them to chase you away from the structure then loop around and try to beat them back when they finally /peace on you. Though that latter option can only work if its a harvie that only takes a few seconds to check on.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't ranting. I enjoy the challenge of checking harvs with minimal combat skill. It's all part of the game, which incedentially I love.

Try getting some other crafters to go with you. It's very funny when you see 10 or so crafters riding around, with an army of droids covering them. And it's scary when you realise that army can do some SERIOUS damage to most things.

Has anybody noticed that creatures spawn in exactly the best resource places? If I see red critters I check to see what is there.
Rules for pure artisans who mine: I play tag to movedumb crittersoff my mines constantly, but that doesn't work if they have guns. Just go back later or get help. Also I found outpeople who shoot at youcan knock you right out of your vehicle. So don't ignore red dots on your radar. Always wait to get out of your vehicle until all the red dots appear on the radar, and remember a stack of yellow dots is bound to hide a red one. Sometimes if you creep really slow from harvester to harvester the reds don't attack until you drive away. Always stay in your vehicle when possible. You can't setup a mine or survey but you can run the mines from your vehicle. Don't carry a gun since you can't kill a durni. You will shoot automatically to defend yourself and they get mad and chase you. There isn't time to deploy a droid and nobody wants to follow you for an hour or 2 while you mine. Armor is nice because you won't get diseased as you drive through red dots. You can run pretty fast without armor if you get knocked out of your car and it is back there somewhere. Stick to beginner planets to mine. It is really satisfying to find NPC's nearby to kill critters who attack, but that is rare, and they won't always follow you that far. Don't ever get bad faction if you can avoid it. There are enough things out there trying to kill you every minute you are driving. For mining I use the slowest vehicle because you aren't going anywhere fast. Get survey missions to pay for your gas. Setup a waypoint toa distantcitythat keeps you from heading toward mountains when you mine. You are going to get really lost. Hunt for 2 things at the same time if possible. You might get lucky quicker and you won't get as confused.
If you are pure artisan belong to a guild to get help and customers and city with experimentation bonus to get help and customers. I am a weaponsmith and therefore I am a miner first and weaponsmith 2nd. Accept reality unless they change it so your mines don't need constant work. It took 3 months after I made Master to get the resources to make decent weapons. I spend 1 hour a day mining. I make weapons once or twice a week. Then you have to keep the vendors up. This casual gamer seems to have a full time job. And I get to start all over again now that my weapons vendor went poof with all my inventory. If I didn't have a business partner (also strongly recommended for the lots, etc.) and the city and the guild with expectations I would probably quit this job and find a game to play.
