Ok so let me get this right,

Factory 100 item +1 log + maint.

Vendor 250 items = O lots and less maint + extra lot to get more resources.

Hmm i have 9 factorys now and only need 3 vendors to sell my armor so thats 12.

Wow i can store more stuff for a cheaper price all i have to do is remember to re up the price on the items to 9999999 every 30 days.

Yup. Just like it's always been.

Except now people have to pay for the privilege with skill points.

Only if your a master merchant ... which most merchants are not. Lots of "legit" folks were 3.0.0.4 ... or 3.4.0.4 ... or 3.4.4.4 (like me).

Interesting points to draw from that...

  1. It ain't about the data model. The present numbers will not appreciably limit the ability of anyone to use a vendor to store many hundreds of items if they wanted to. At biz 3, 100x51=5,100 items. Biz 4 doubles that to 10,200.

  2. It ain't about vendors as storage devices. See above.

  3. Therefore, the vendor item limits *must* be about controlling the economy. Or am I missing some other reasonable goal here?

Hmm... Marxist devs maybe?

I agree that something needs to be done about the use of vendors as storage.

But also at the same time allow multiple crafted goods to be offerred as one item.

How many folks think that a suit of armor should be 10 items (full composite and backpack) instead of one? I don't.

Neither imo should a factory run of tailor-made armor components such as reinforced fiber panels count as more than one item for sale though I suppose an argument could be made for counting it as more than one but less than 41. Same with the armor I suppose. I wouldn't object if it took up 2-3 vendor slots just please not all 10.

Now...much of what people store isn't crafted. Much of it is resources. And I would like to see each non-crafted item take up a full vendor slot whether in a backpack or not (unless the items have the same serial number).

A lot of non-component loot items are also stored, and I think those should take up a full slot too even if they are in a backpack.

What do the rest of you think?

50 items in the pack plus the pack = 51

Storing that many items in a pack is inconvenient, tho.

You pretty much have to put down everything you're carrying just to retrieve one item from the pack.

While this won't stop vendors being used to store items, it will very likely lower the numbers significantly.

I don't think so.

I think (*think*) that the majority of this particular misuse of vendors comes from power-gaming artisans and merchants. If they're power-gamers, they probably have multiple accounts. If they have multipleaccounts, one of them is probablyan alt devoted toMasterMerchant. That account probably has ample space in his inventory to hold a full pack, which is all it takes to make tihs convenient enough for storage.

sorry.. i think i missed why you care what i store on my vendor? my skill points = my vendor = i can store or place on it whateverthehell i want

I agree.

The issue is with people who are getting the storage without spending the skill points.

On the up side, you can now buy more storage in-game. The cost? 24 skill points.

Fortunately, the cost per item gets cheaper as you go.

Just stating a point. theres ways to use this as storage just think about it more man i love it now before i never used them as storage becuse i though somthing like this might happen. Now that they have set the rules down i just might start using them as storage heck im sick of paying for 3 factorys full of stuff when i can pay 9c a hr for 1 vendor to do the same thing at 9999999. beh how did this fix SOE's problem though?

By removing the ability of people that didn't sacrifice skill points to do it.

It won't STOP it, but it will drastically reduce the number of people doing it.

Why? What makes you think that I, as a merchant, should not have the *right* to use my vendors as I see fit?

If I spend part of my precious 250 allotted skill points on merchant ... who are you, or anybody, to tell me how to use them?

If I want to drop 4 vendors around a plant and have them "bark" at people passing by with the words of a monty python skit (bring me a shubbery)... well ... I should be able to do that.

If I want to line up 4 nicely built twilek vendors in leotards asking: "is this how you like it"?? ... well ... I should be able to do that as well.

On the flip side, if I spend points on vendors, why should I not be able to use them as "storage"?

Let's see ... they cost me skill points and they cost me daily maintenance ... hmm ... seems to me that entitles me to use them *all* as storage if I so please.

Right now I am a 3.4.4.4 merchant ... and I am fairly sure that I have well less then 3k items on my vendors (both sales and storage)... so that means I am "kosher" as far as the Dev's are concerned.
