Hey everyone, I have Merchant 0003 right now and I have 5 vendors. I was wondering if I drop Merchant for a week or two and gain Master Artisan so I can put vehicles on my vendors will the vendors disappear? What happens to vendors after you drop the skills necessary for having them?

Just read the FAQ and answered my own question. To anyone else who had the same question as I did and wants to know the answer, here it is copied from the FAQ.

Known Bugs

  1. Surrender Skill:Players can place vendors or merchant tents, surrender Merchant skills, and still retaining the use of the vendors and merchant tents. This undermines those that are merchants, and makes our class a throw away. NO OTHER CLASS IN THE GAME ALLOWS YOU TO RETAIN A SKILL AFTER YOU BACK OUT OF IT!!!

I don't know about you, but I really don't see it as being that much of a problem. I drop all the vendors I want, I make them look the way I like, and I don't change them, aside from maybe the clothes if I was really really bored, so essentially I'm not using the skills that I'm given, and the skill points are wasted.

Agreed, its a wast of skill points to have to keep them to operate a vender. In fact is probably the Merchants saving grace that once we drop our venders we can dedicate our skills to crafting more in more advanced areas. With the 6k limit on the Bizzar its not woth selling anything there thats of any real quality value, and so a Master Artison/Weaponsmith/etc... prity much has to have a vender.Being inthe same skill tree gets prity borning after a while so I like the idea that I can dable in many. You kill that and the internal ecodies.

THIS IS NOT A SAVING GRACE FOR THE MERCHANT TREE!!!

I cant believe these idiots are still existing!

YOU ARE USING AN EXPLOIT IN THE GAME TO GAIN THE BENIFITS OF MY PROFESSION WHILE NOT PAYING FOR IT!!! IF YOU HAD ANY HONOR IN YOU YOU WOULD REMOVE YOUR EXTRA VENDORS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SKILLS FOR!!!

If I had the capability to make Composite armor, Guild halls, and T21 rifles simply by keeping the scematics of a profession I untrained myself in, while you were still a master of that profession, what would you think?

No offense but do you actually think you deserve to keep them? Take your chances.

It is our saving grace, and its MY perfession as well. I have always maintained enough Skill points to hold my main vender just incase they ever do change it. People do pay for there venders with maintances, and the skill tree spacificly says to "Create a Vendor" not maintain it. Read your skill tree befor you go on shouting about expoits, If you wanted to go and say to the Developers, make venders cost more for people who creat them then lose there Merchant skills, that would be fine with me. But it's not an Expoit its a skill thatdoes exactlyjust want it says. Give you the ablity to "Make and place a vendor".

So you believe the letter of the law, instead of follow the spirit of the law as it was intended. Are you some sort of lawyer in a second life? Because you sure as hell aint no merchant.

This is so typical of a crafting-first mentality. To hell with "secondary" professions, like merchant, because after all, it's only a lesser profession. If I can exploit someone elses professions to suit my needs then so be it, as long as I don't pay for it.

If the letter of the law of the skill is to be believed, then what is the point of keeping the skill for us Merchant True-Hearts. If you say "The nice pretty house signs you get", by God, I'll slug you. Merchant is a broken profession with very little to offer, but the fact others are gaining the benefits of of it without paying is repulsive. You are making a mockery of merchants, and I, for one, would like to see you removed from the profession.

See horse.

See dead horse.

Beat dead horse.

Dead horse dead.

There are 200 million threads in this forum about this and everyone always get all worked up and argues over and over and over about this. Some day the developers may decide to remove vendors from people without merchant skills, some day they may not. Some day they may allow me to eyeshot withotu being a Biunty Hunter.

Save yourself the grief and blood pressure rise and go read the horse beating threads already in this forum on this same subject. After you have read those, anything you might have said will already have been read, so you can then chill out and have a beer and relax instead ofarguing in thread number 200 million and 1 on this subject.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't keep your vendors as long as you pay maintenance.

Appearently it has not soaked in. I want exploiters of my profession to know how passionate I am against their stealing our skills. And I will keep doing it as long as I see posts like this until they all understand.

lmao you just pointed out in your last most directed at me that I'm right, it is the Leter of the Law that you can creat, and dont have to have the skill to maintain. You just keep waisting your skill points and have fun :-) cause untell they change the system or the discription it isnt an exploit. :-)

Please can we not have a 10 page argument about this topic again that degenerates into stupid name calling and people criticizing each other's reading comprehension?

Just in case anyone wants a response from someone official, here's a direct quote from Garva in a thread about this issue over in game guides (full thread here).

This is going to be fixed, so I do not recommend doing it, and just because its not something people are being banned for it is still exploiting the system. Since this post is describing an exploit of sorts it will be closed.

I always thought that calling it an actual exploit may be a tiny bit harsh, but apparently some folks who work for SOE think that it qualifies as one.
