Thread: Is anyone else worried about the register vendor changes?
I agree that having to reregister your vendor every day is bad thing and I don't have any great solutions, I guess that's why I'm starting this thread.
I'm worried that people will register their vendors on the map and leave them there even when there is no merchandise to sell on them. If people run to vendor after vendor and find no items to buy, how long before the planetary map is useless? As it stands, anything on the planetary map is very likely to be stocked since it's unlikely that a person will register their vendor when they have no items on it to sell.
Maybe they should make it so that vendors automatically unregister themselves when they no longer have items for sale? Or make is so that we have to reregister every few days, just not every single day.
As is stands right now, the planetary map is the only way that I advertise my shop. I don't feel comfortable making big stinks about my shop on the forumsand I'll never go shouting the waypoint in town to drum up customers so I'm just wondering if my best form of advertising is very soon going to mean nothing like a lot of the other merchant skills.
...just wondering...

I would like it to stay registered as long as I have items and maintenance money in it. If I let it go empty, I would expect it to unregister.
I think to keep the world map "fresh" vendors would drop once per week. I wouldn't mind re-registering my vendor(s) once per week. Then I could do it on the weekend and not have to try to do it before work each day.
I agree with the other person that stated if the merchant runs out of maintenance, then the merchant should drop from the map at that point.
I could live with a 7 day timer on my Global Advertising. I defintely think that if a vendor is accessed and has 0 items on it it should unregister itself from the global map...nothing is worse than an empty vendor.

Having vendors drop off that have no items is a good idea. Right now I have a vendor with nothing on it registered on the map. It is in the back of my house, and has the name of the store, where two vendors up front have the goods. I've done it this way because I just haven't changed the vendor up front.
Here is a thought though. If you were to implement this, all you would have to do is keep one item on the vendor with an absolutely ridiculous price. This keeps your vendor on the map, especially if you're in a good position. Having to reregister the vendor every 14 days would be a great way to mix the map up a bit and give everyone an opportunity to hit the list close to the top.
When I visit someone, I'll look at the vendor listings and make a waypoint to their shop. If the vendor is empty, I delete the waypoint. On subsequent trips, I look to see if I have a waypoint created first then go to the map. I think of my datapad as the storage place for those merchants I prefer, and the map as a place to shop.
But then, this could by my optimism running away with me. 8)
I've never worried about where I am on the list. Honestly. When you look at the map you look at the things closest to where you are first then work outward. You don't work from the top of the list down. And to be honest you usually visit more than one shop anyways. Having the global advertising not reset is a huge step because it will at least be ON the list all day instead of off it most of the time except when I remember to log in and put it back in.
I can't get a registered vendor to stay on after a single day now.
Am I doing something wrong? It disappears each day.
I have all merchant skills save master.

The fix isn't going in until the next big patch (probably 3 weeks or so). Until then, you have to register again every day after the morning reboot.
Hi,
how about this:
Advertising 3: Vendor can be registered for 24h
Master: Vendor can be registered 7 days
Read ya.
An interesting problem arrises though if you base it on item inventory. I have seen many shops that purposefully name an empty vendor after the name of their shop to put up on the map (mine included). The rest of their vendors are all more appropriately labelled by what they are selling. Now I suppose that you could throw a few items on the "ad-vendor" but that's more of a work around.
IMHO I still think there should be a way, via the house management tool, to advertise your establishment with the option of setting the name that is displayed on the planetary map. This could tie into normal house maintenance without the need to register vendors individually. Just a thought.
