Thread: SOE's Response to the Mass Merchant Bannings on every server
Well after kicking and screaming (not literally but close) I demanded to speak to someone in charge at SOE and was able to talk to the Lead CSR. He and I discussed the mass bannings of poeple all over SWG and he gave me their reason for what is occuring. He said pretty much what we already knew but expanded a little more. People are being banned on all servers for the people who made duped credits buying our items. He assured me that they are working on it 24/7 and that GM's will be responding to emails as soon as they can. He said that they are doing everything they can to ensure that none of the duped credits get into the economy. I asked him why they haven't said anything yet, he said he wasn't sure why the devs had not said anything yet, but that he assured me they were working on getting things straight.
It's not much more than we already knew but at least they aren't going to perma ban the merchants. I think we all knew that if they did that the chaos that would ensue. Anyway, after 20 minutes of waiting and demanding, I got as much out of them as I could. Hopefully we get our accounts reactivated soon.

I'll posit a guess as to this reason. It's because there are no lines of communication between the devs and the CSRs. If there were, I'd like to think we wouldn't have incompetent CSRs who confiscate legit items anddon't know how basic game systems work. Conversely, the devs might know just how poor, pathetic, and craptastic the "customer service" (and I use that term loosely) we typically receive is.
There are exceptions. I myself have had at least 1 good experience with a CSR. But that's about 4 less than I should have had.

OK, Thunderheart really didn't write it. But I wish he would have.
And if I get banned... then I will not be back.
Shoot first, ask questions later?
No thank you.

CSRs are in San Diego, California and the devs are in Austin, Texas so I'm sure you're right.
People who are banned, then unbanned because they were innocent should, at the very least, receive credit for the days they were unable to play. I bet they don't even get an apology however, other than the canned one in TH's post.
Actually the devs are in San Diego, CA, and Austin Texas. The CSRs..... Probably india

Nah ... CSR's and some (or all) of QA is in San Diego ... I meet some of them at ComicCon just a few weeks back.
Negative Hero_DarkJedi.
QA Staff and Customer Service Reps do exist in India.
Proof: Check the latest Job Postin' of the QA Manager fer Austin, Texas. And see if ye can find the post made by the Director of Customer Service back in March'04.
Either way, don't hold your breath, but do be polite. Remember, the other schlep on the other side of the phone is just trying to do his job and put food on the table for he & his own.
Hello,
We have recently been made aware of a bug which was used as a method to
duplicate credits in Star Wars Galaxies. We have since fixed this bug
and stopped its use. The exploitation of this bug resulted in the
creation of a large amount of credits which isdamaging to the game?s
internal economy. We have identified everyone that exploited this bug
and are in the process of terminating the accounts that were involved.
We are continuing to actively investigate this issue and may determine
at a later date that further terminations may be necessary.
If you are receiving this reply to your inquiry, your account has been
identified as one involved with exploiting this bug and your account(s)
have been terminated (or suspended pending termination). It is against
our Terms of Service (agreed to every time you enter the game) to
exploit bugs or other obvious system design flaws. Section 12 of the
rules of conduct located at the official Star Wars Galaxies website
states:
12. You will not exploit any bug in Star Wars Galaxies, and you will not
communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug either directly or
through public posting, to any other Sony Station member. You will
promptly report such bugs via the /bug command in-game or by emailing
[email protected]. Exploitable bugs include, but are not limited
to bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits in-game.
Any account that has been positively identified to have exploited this
bugor was used to move these duplicated credits around (and all related
accounts) will beterminated and will not be reactivated.
Thank you,
Sony Online Entertainment Management
