You know I'm tired of being run down as a merchant. It gets old hearing everyone come into our forum and trash us for having that which they don't.. vendors. Its getting old hearing the same old same old. I'm a merchant and I'm proud to be one. At current I sell, armor, weapons, loot, bio pets, tissues, and was selling smuggler gear and spice which I look to sell again when my vendor numbers go up with the patch and I'm considering branching out to maybe some other fields.

Now I'm not a weaponsmith i buy from a weaponsmith and resell. Matter fact we have such a lucrative partnership that he doesn't have a vendor for reselling he sells solely to me and I keep him as busy as he ever wanted to be. Again I'm not an armorsmith and the the armorsmith thats supplies me sells retail but has told me on several occassions I account for 80% of his business.

I spend a lot of time advertising and building my business. I go out and seek suppliers and make deals. I then look at the current market so I can get in there and compete. I am amerchant... thats what I do. I have fun doing it. I guess it would be nice to be able to go out and solo the geo caves with this toon but I have choosen to be a Master BE and Master Merchant so soloing kreetles is a chore for me. It would be nice even to be able to go out and hunt for the resources i need, but I can't... I don't have the skill points. But I understand thatis part of the choice I made when using my skill points. So that means I have to depend upon others for resources and its amazing to look at how many contacts and business partnerships I have going on. rather than everything be done by myself Iwork with others to run my business and I think thats half the fun. It seems to me it would be quite boring if I did everything by myself. Anyway my request is if you don't like the way things are you have every right to speak your mind but please don't run those who have merchant skills through the gutter, there has got to be another way to voice your dislike than to come in the merchant forum and attack those with merchant abilitites. Simply voice your dislikes and your ideas, you don't have to make it personal against the merchant community. Amazing at it might seem some of us like the merchant profession.

Can say the same thing, the other way round.Every time someone comes in here and complains about the fact they will lose the use of vendors even without having Artisan, automatically they get branded an exploiter, even though that person innocently wasn't, just a victim of the game mechanics.

I have been branded an afk grinder, and this is just not true. Most of you Merchants are accusing innocent people of things they have never done. Then they respond back in defense and then its viewed as being trashy

Not every one views these forums and website, which is where the information about the vendors being an explot have been.

The people who have used the vendors unknowingly as an exploit need assistance and guidance in finding a resolution, not sarcasm, or accusations of things they haven't done or have done thats against the merchant profession.

He's not referring to people that need help. People that need help tend to come here and ask questions.

The people he is referring to come on here and the first thing out of their mouth is how crappy it is that they should have a skill, that theyno longerlegitimately own, taken away from them.

Actually, I think the merchantsare just defending their profession. I may be slightly biased, but I don't believe merchants start the majority of these arguments.

The issue for many merchants in this forum is that they have been here for months and months and they have answered easily 2000 posts asking the same question....Questions that are answered in our Guide. Questions that are answwered in 3 other posts on the front page. But still the question comes..and comes...and comes. They get frustrated and they lash out. Its not fair to the innocent but it happens.

I would never go into a professional forum and ask questions about how to keep someting from it after I left. If I wanted to know I would look around and search and see if the answer was there before I asked people to answer those kinds of questions.

This is all off topic however. The point of this post is that the author of it is a traditional merchant. He buys and sells items. He is retailing and managing a business. He should be an example for those who want to do the same thing. More and more of them will help ease the pain of these changes as they can help crafters sell their merchandise. It CAN be done. It is BEING done. We have to get the crafters who are open to the idea together with merchants who are willing to provide the service.

Good post......It sounds like you're playing your profession as the developers hoped it would be. I came from 6 years in UOwhere there wasn't a seperate Merchant class. It wasn't needed there because the crafting skills weren't nearly as complex as in SWG. There's a real need for the class here.

I think that Merchants are about to receive the value we deserve. I know that our customers will be a lot happier when they don't spend so much time running to empty or storage vendors. There will always be the occasional nasty customer but the good people will make up for it. It can be a lot of fun.

I truly think Merchant is a terrible profession from a GAME DESIGN point of view as it requires a basic FUNCTION to be turned into a profession. There is no skill at being a merchant, per se, as all skills are the same from Novice to Master, vendors just have *extras* that get added on as one goes up the trees. The paradigm is completely different from all the other professions in this game and leaves the playability of the profession to the imagination of the player with no controls whatsoever in place to assure security and prevent the potential for fraud.

Having said that, I've played over 12 characters through Master Merchant and have three at Master Merchant and two and 3/4/0/4 Merchant right now. I do not think vendors should be the PRIMARY focus of a Merchant Profession. The fact that the bazaar even exists means that the developers agree with my line of reasoning on some level. If (the current) Merchant profession were a viable playing class there would be no need for the bazaar.

My focus of Merchant would be a SKILL SET that better enables trade and contracts in the game between the NPCs and the merchant, the players and the merchant, and gives the merchant the ability to MANAGE goods MUCH MORE efficiently than a normal player.

People asking to have Merchant skills of any kind without skill points investiture are just yelling in the wind mate.

As an MA I do have the skill, it's not just Merchants ya know. The only problem is that people like the poster are rare. And how many crafters can he support? There are far mor crafters than merchants. How are the goods supposed to get sold?

I hope there are others like you in all the galaxies. I have yet to meet even one though. Not many people want to spend their time buying and selling.I still believe this change will make a lot of part time merchants quit, and because of this I think it's going to get real hard to find the weapons/armor/junk/etc we need to play this game.

BTW, I have placed all my resources on sale and am getting out of the business for this. And NO, I did NOT exploit. I am still a merchant, but I am not interested in specializing in it in order to have enough vendor space to sell my resources so am going to drop merchant as soon as I sell off. I wonder where my old customers are going to find their resources now?

One thing that all Artisans should understand..when we in the merchant forum talk about people with "Merchant Skill" we are refering to anyone with "Manage Vendor" skill which includes the business line of Artisan. These are the apprentice merchants the ones who might go on to be more full featured merchants or may choose to only keep the skills they have either way they are our colleagues not our enemies.

He can probably support several crafters. Not several mega crafters but honestly they either need multiple merchants or the need to do it themselves if they are trying to create their own Trade Empire.

The real question is how do we get MORE players like this poster? We need them everywhere!
