Thread: Has the elimination of 'poaching' improved your business? Mine sure has!

sort of on topic, i think:

i went over to buy some lgo to finish some items for a friend before my account expires, and the guy i usually buy ore from has no vendor. he said he had to get rid of all that since he did not have enough volume on the vendor to house a reasonable supply (i think he has business 4). only one of the vendors in that mini-mall remain.

so that sort of makes my business harder, not better.

but i am outta here, anyway. just an observation.

It's good to see that Dingo is having so much fun with this. He deserves it with all the hard work he did to end the vendor poaching.

The issue I think that most people are having are the 14 day turnaround. If that is going to stay, I would request that all vendors load during the reboots. That way, the vendors will load up in the global map without hoping that someone happens to pop in unannounced.

no, it's the best thing to happen.... your server will 'recover'. Merchant is a valued and now valuable profession to have. But if you quit, can I have your stuff?

Poachers are rightfully suffering the retribution they deserve for the damage they have caused the merchant profession. It is the day of the merchant! Feel our wrath!

The funny thing is that most of the people 'suffering' are not poachers. Nor is merchant particularly valued. It is a necessary evil for 90% of the people I know that have skill points invested in it. That doesn't make it 'valued'.

I'd beg to differ (as usual).

In order to make money through the completion ofmissions, one must take the "necessary evil" skill of a combat profession.

In order to make money through the tissue and organic resource trade, one must take the "necessary evil" skill of novice Scout.

In order to make money through the buffing of players, one must take the "necessary evil" skills of Doctors or Entertainers.

Your beliefs of value are always so skewed that its impossible to believe that you think ANY skill has worth to them. It's amazing you have any fun in this game at all.

I'm one of those who views merchant as a "necessary evil". I've also been just about every combat profession out there, and a long-time master crafter. I didn't feel that they were "necessary evils".

Why? Simple. I found the combat and crafting professions to be fun. If you keep yourself away from the grind, combat is all fun. Same with crafting. Nothing in the explicit skill set of merchant is fun to me. I don't get my rocks off placing vendors, registering them, dressing them up, tending their stock, and setting up spambots to hand out their location. I know some of you play the part well and enjoy being a merchant, but nine times out of tenyou're going outside of the explicit merchant skills to have that fun.

Your mileage may vary.

After a long day of raiding the competitions vendors and having my minions worship me, I have a nice long conversation with my vendor. We talk and he talks back to me (barking).

It's also alot of fun to have the vendor bark a very specific insult to a friend that you just programmed it to.

My vendor is my bestest friend Soon I'll have 12 bestest friends! /cackle... where's my wine?

I would have picked you as my best friend, but frankly, the vendor is much more stimulating conversation.

Well, at least the nice fat paycheck, generous benefits package, and free subscription makes it all worthwhile, right?

What?

You don't?

Volunteer, you say?

Oh... well, nevermind.
