Thread: Merchants Unite! We must get devs to take away vendors from Business 3 and 4!
What we ARE saying, is that they should be REQUIRED to use skill points in order to do it
If you got to business 3 and 4 without spending skill points, please /bug it because it cost me 9 skill points for biz3 and 14 total for biz4.
The 9 points you spend on biz 3 is the same amount you spend on all four elitelevel 4 skills and master.
That's a lot of skill points when you start running out and are surrendering skills. You'll see a lot of vanity vendors disappear when people start to run out of points.
I'm considering dropping the entire engineering line and possibly surveying 4.
God, you're right. I just assume everyone's a crafter, but some ofthe people I know mostly using biz3boxes are scouts and this is their only skill in the artisan line.
If gcxp doesn't raise business skills only business xp does which you get 50 business xp per bazaar sale and you need 5000 business xp to learn merchant then you get merchant xp from then in. That'd reduce scouts having vendors. By doing that they use the bazaar or other peoples vendors. Number of items per vendor goes up and the higher that goes up the more people want to shop there since there's such a selection. Thus merchants make more plus scouts make more since merchants need to keep a ton of items stocked and buy from the scout to keep stocked. It's a great deal for people who only want to sell a few items like most people who only get business 3 use it for. Why spend maintance on a hosue and vendor when you can just cut 10% off selling price and unload it in instantly?

I demand a pet in 3rd box in scout tree or remove vendors from 3rd box. Since vendors and petsmake the class they deserve to have their living entirely in their class not giving to a smuggler who learns artisan then business 3 just to unlearn it fast and keep their vendor without any artisan skills. That's bs.
*POOF* Your demand is granted... apparently with the next major publish, anyone can own a pet (a small one, anyway).
But no one should get to keep a vendor after selling back business 3. That IS an exploit, if it works.
Getting a vendor is the ONLY worthwhile perk in the whole business line. If the business line were fleshed out with worthwhile perks, I could actually support reorganizing the whole vendor/bazaar paradigm, but until then, calls for nerfing honest business people just smack of sour grapes.
It actually cracks me up that you guys are upset over business 3 getting a vendor.
I am a merchant and I think that you are guys are getting upset for nothing. When I was at business 3 I saw how inadiquate the vendor was for Business 3 and the incredible cost of running a vendor at that level I was driven to go to merchant. What I don't see is how you guys have reverse thinking. If people want to sell there items they have crafted they get to business 3 and see how poor the vendor is and now they want to go to Merchant for that reason. Now if all the crafters start going to Merchant level, what good will the Merchants be if all the crafters are being partial Merchants. Personally I would rather have them have a vendor that limits them, but does not have the outrageous maintenace. Right now as I see it, Crafters are becoming their own Merchants....1 because it is to easy, 2 there is no way really to be a pure Merchant and benefit the commuinty as a whole and 3because there is no limit that protects people who want to be a pure merchant.
Here is another thought. Say that the bazaar would only allow you to sell items 1k or less, but at the same time making it so that Crafters could not sell their own goods unless it was through the bazaar only or throught a Merchant. Then giveMerchants a way to charge a % of the sale like a consignment, but they would get the % whether the sale would happend or not. The higher level the Merch say the more he could charge on consignement % say at a max of 10% of the total sale. Forcing all goods that were over 1k to be sold through merchants. This is what I believe you should really be pusing for or something very similar to it.
BTW on a bulky vendor at Business 3 I tried to place alot of items up for sale. My Maintenane was at 10000 cr a day. I can place the same on a merchant vendor and be a tremendous amout less. If I remember correctly less then 500cr a day..I cold be wrong...but I know it is rediculously less.
All just thoughts....

You can't force crafters to sell through a merchant.
You can force them to spend 9 points for biz3or 20 points for novice merchant.
But you can't make them sell through a merchant and I'd make a guess that if you up the bidding much more than novice merchant to get that first vendor, you'll drive people out of crafting (or out of SWG) before they go through a retailer.
My supplier is now reevaluating the cost/benefit of his little shop. He's not planning to go to a retailer, he's planning fact to face or bazaar sales. Retailers just aren't in the equation.
There's no reason to pull the junky vendors that the artisian class gets, although maybe putting some caps on. Although they've pretty much done that by making the maintenance cost ramp up so fast, it's not worth having too many items on.
But I will agree, if you drop the Bus3 skill, the vendor should go away, if it doesn't, that should be filed as an exploit.
But high level merchants definetely need more. I've looked at the tree, I"m working on getting that planetary ad campain, but there's nothing else in there.... the problem isn't what everyone else is getting, it's what the merchants AREN'T getting.
Put away the nerf bat, it's not needed. What the merchants need to do as a class is campain for some real benifits to being a high-level merchant, instead of the weak stuff they're being fed now.
Exactly just not the right to use vendors as an artisan. Anyone can sell items on bazaar or word-of-mouth.
So craftsmen don't have a right to run their own small shop? Beep - wrong answer.
The advantage someone with the full merchant tree has isn't in an item - the vendor - but with the other tools, of which I'm the first to agree - you need more of.
"So craftsmen don't have a right to run their own small shop? Beep - wrong answer."
I do woodworking as a hobby in real life. Just cuz I craft things in real life doesn't entitle me to have a shop now does it? Nope. Same with a game. You have to earn it and spend time and money to get one. Also you have to be able to afford it and have items to sell it in to keep it going. Wrong answer is giving every crafter who can click 30 bone chest plates to get business 3 a vendor.
why the heck doesn't it entitle you to have a shop? you choosing to not sell you wood worked stuff, you choosing not to open a shop is entirely up to you, but there is no restriction preventing you from doing so.
Every crafter doesn't have to take the business line, they don't have to set up a vendor, but that doesn't mean they can't if they don't choose to. You've got a real messed up sense of priorities x.
