Thread: Poll: Will you Quit Merchant if Vendor Fees are introduced before fixes ??
The reality is,this will actually help as many merchants as it will hurt.
As some casual and low profit merchants go out of business, more customers will go to the merchants that can still make it. It will eventually provide a larger barrier to entry tofor the market andforce people to run their enterprises with more business sense. Essentially, the rich will get richer (capitalism at its finest).
Mind you, I'm not saying this is a good thing, just the reality of the situation ![]()
Now, the consumer will get hurt most of all - long term, the vendor costs will just get transfered to the consumer, and the system will penalize people that try to offer a lot of variety in their items. There will be fewer shops available, less competition among crafters and fewer variety of items on the vendors that do exist.
Small items that cost in the 1k-5k range are not worth the time it takes to keep them manufactured and stocked.
The only way I can justify spending my time crafting items and selling items is if I can load a vendor up and forget about it till they sell. If I cannot put a ton of items on my vendors there is no way I am going to bother.
This is particularly important as a tailor seeing how there a are zillion different tailor items each in 200 different colors. The more items I have on vendors the less tells I get from half literate children asking, "wut u got thats good?".
If I cannot have a few hundred thousand credits worth of items on vendors for them to sell slowly over time at no cost or hassle to me it is not worth it. For credits it would be much more profitable to just run missions and make a master item or two a day to shout about when waiting for a shuttle.
If they want players to be a part of the supply side of the economy they need to reduce our transaction costs in time and credits, not increase them.
I'd have to see how my boyfriend feels about it, but I'd think at that point, we would have to cancel our accounts. I simply will not pay for a game, where we are constantly putting up with bugs and get nerfed left and right with no fixes.
Adding this vendor maintenance formula to merchants' backs is like beating on a cripple. What the hell is the point? He's already crippled!
Now, everyone has their bugs, but Merchants can't even function properly. I can't see any point in taking lines other than Advertising up to 3 and Hiring (note: I only need 3 vendors at most, two food, one powerups).
It's sad, because I truly enjoy sitting in my shop, greeting visitors and talking with them while stocking my vendors. My food does sell pretty quickly, but I have to keep a good variety up there for the different playstyles that require different stats.
I'm only a novice merchant atm, but yes, I'll drop it. And the business line leading to it. What's the point?
They seem to be killing the crafting/selling professions by degrees.
I will greatly reduce the skill tree for Merchant, and remove most, if not all of the items currently offered for sell.
In fact, I have already started pulling items off the Merchants and selling them on the bazaar.
I will wait then to see the outcome of this change and determine if I need to release all the Merchant skills and move on.

Yes, this will hurt those "spur of the moment" sales and the "casual" player but its a nice way to avoid SOE's so called fixes plus keeps the data base jam packed.
I basically sell everything now, perfect for the n00bs, so it will definetly hurt that department. I refuse to give up my merchant skills, even tho half the features dont even work. I like logging in and seeing that someone really did like my selection/prices.
I also like visiting other shops and seeing new people trying to push their wares ... this I dont want to stop doing.
Dont give up guys, just use your heads. SOE has a full team of people to sucker us, lets make them earn that paycheck
LOVE TO THE MERCHANTS!!!
The profession is about 90% broken/useless, and much our problems were issues even in beta. Several months have passed, and SOE has not fixed the merchant profession.
That is why I will quit: the product is defective and SOE has not convinced me that they even care to fix the problem. They introduce more problems than thy fix.
The non-combat side of this game has fallen very short of the developers vision, let alone mine.
I'm not sure.
Between all of my vendors in my superstore I have about 750k worth of goods to sell. That's 13,500/day in upkeep. And since Ad3 is busted, my vendors don't show up during the day, as I work during the day.
Maybe if they fixed Ad3 so that I could get some of the day sales action this wouldn't be so bad... but the daytime folks have no clue my shop exists.
If those goes thru (which it will... Holo may pretend like he is asking for advice, but they have already made up their mind) I'll try the item proxy plan that folks are talking about... though I think the customer base won't like it.
If I do decide to cave... I'll leave my merchants up, stocked full of as much boffa as I can fit on em.
Nope, I can't say thatI will quit. I may have to adjust my business practices but I definitely won't be quitting over a BUG thatsome of us (myself included)have been taking advantage of. Of course, I'm not saying that the proposed change is good or even sensible - but I won't let itdrag me down.
Now if we could just get this vocal and passionate about the other merchant bugs and issues, maybe the devs would take notice and fix our broken profession so this one bug fix isn't quite so painful . . .
I will just use my alt as a seller in Bestine and do away with my vendors...how hard is it to make a looping shouting macro saying what you have...what the price is and contact misfit to buy...
hell...I might do that anyway! no vendor fees at all!
