Thread: Master Merchant why? Holo told me too...
Ok, I have to step up and defend a guildmate here.
Mmmmm, flame happy much there Tigershark??? Hey I like a good flame post as much as the next guy, but **edit**. Least stick to the facts the dude yer trying to flame put in their post in the first place. Sorry, just didn't see anywhere that Titas said "This profession sucks" or "How do I master it in one day" type comments. He just stated he's not into this kind of profession and is a hack and slash type of guy and would appreciate any help that those who do the profession would be willing to give... Yes, he is an idiot. He should, yes should have tried the merchant guide forum area first, and then asked here if he did not find the info he was looking for. But hey, he's my guildmate. I can get away with callin him an idiot. Along with many other various things on a minute by minute basis. Trust me. Its easy sometimes.
And ok Faellyn, did someone pee in your cheerios? Ok you dont care about his f'ing holo-slaving. Well he does. He doesnt care for having to master a profession that is not his forte, you do care cause it is your forte. Titas has no vision cause he's holo-grinding? Well your vision was to be something that requireda merchant of some sort. Maybe his end vision was to have a jedi character? I mean probably 90% of the peole who started playing this game when they bought it wanted to be a Jedi, but then gave up when they found out the path was going to be long and hard, then decided to become something else like a master armorsmith.
Did you think of that before you posted? Probably not. Are you thinking of that now that not only me but others have said it? Probably not. Just because his vision is different than having a single solid character type that he can develop, that people would know, and grow to love or hate. Personally I think Titas is a great guy to have in the guild, and fun to go hunting with. Maybe, he justmight play both his Jedi and his main character equally and develop two characters within his particular vision.
And for a hack and slash type of person, yeah having to sit a vendor somewhere and slowly wait for the experience to trickle in, when you are used to blowing something up and seeing a visible increase in their experience with every kill they make on an average of lets say a kill every minute or so... It isa VERY disturbing thing to have to sit through. Go from action, to sitting and waiting. You ever seen what happens when you cage a wild animal? Same thing. Titas is a wild animal trapped in a cage. The one who trapped his happy buttin there is the Evil Mr. Holocron. Yes he took SoE's bait and wandered into the cage and it snapped down hard on his arse.
I understand how ya feel, defending something you take pride in. Hell I'm a security guard, I do love my job. And you KNOW how much crap security guards get on a daily basis. I'm sure you've made a rent-a-cop joke or comment at least once in your life, if you have not. Then you are a better person than most... But that is my chosen profession for the time being. Is it my career? No. But it pays my bills, allowing me to play a game that I have come to love.
People grinding holo-professions does not make them idiots. Its just doing a job you hate to get the paycheck you love until the right job or career does come along so you can do the job you love to get the paycheck you'll REALLY love....
From a Dev's perspective, I would think the only reason why they started this method of grinding through different professions was to have all players look into the different aspects that the game had to offer.
I just got BE as my first Holo. At first, I didn't really like it because I heard it was hard to grind through, but I asked a few BE friends and they're saying they thought the same but once you start, it's too much fun to stop. Now, I'm getting more and more intersted in the proffesion and reading alot about it in the forums.
The same thing happened to me with CH. I just got a non-CH pet so I could tank, but I fell in love with the profession. Until then, I never cared about what creatures look like or their stats. All I needed to know was whether or not I could kill it. After getting my first Bantha, things changed and I started to enjoy the beauty of Peko Pekos and started studying a whole new world that was totally new to me, which was"Creatures" (which I think plays a huge role in this game).
There are 33 professions in the game.
I'm sure EVERYONE would be able to find at least a handful of professions that they might find 'fun' after a while, even though it started out as a Holo Grind.
I thinkthe devs wanteveryone to fully enjoy the game from many angles. And the only logical and effective way to do this would be to have players try out the different professions.
Once any player becomes a jedi and permadeaths a few times and gets tired of being a Jedi, that playermight actually come back and finally be able to figure out what part of the game that person really enjoyed the most and pursue something totally different that what was originally planned.
Who knows, maybe the original poster or anyone else that complains at first will find Merchant as being 'fun' in the long run...
bah whiners...be grateful when i had to grind merchant the only way to get merchant exp was to sit next to my vendors ><
stupid holos andlazy devs ><
