the idea of the "friends list" ... just put "Customer" next to the name in the note area. then you can ctrl+MB to choose the "customers" and mass email that way. also, keep the emails short and sweet ... if you run on for 400 char the customers get lost after "Thank you for shopping XXX blah blah blah blah blah blah".

Once per week seems excessive. I think I'd stick with maybe once per month. Of course, that's just my preference. Everyone will probably feel differently about it so you just have to find a good balance. If you have to, think about it like this, "Is this mailer going to benefit me or my customers?"

Nornerator,

I do something very similar with my mining company. Whenever someone purchases from me, I send them a form letter basically saying thank you and it has waypoints to all of my vendors attached, then I add them to my friends list with the description "IMC Customer." I also, once a month, send them a letter saying exactly what is going on with my company.

I have never once gotten a bad reply or had someone ask to be removed from the mailing list (even though I have a line saying that if they want removal to email me back). Even though I am sure a lot of people just delete it and some may not even understand it (remember, Gorath = Germans), it has been pretty successful with a lot of positive feedback. The vast majority of the feedback is praising the way I do it. When I send the mails, they are all in character from the managing officer of the Imperial Mining Company. Think of what SOE has been doing with load screens since JTL. I was doing that long before.

Using the friend's list is better because you can remove people from the list with almost no problem at all.

Also, one last thing I would like to say is STOP WALMARTING!!!! I also am a doc who is trying to unload all of his medical supplies, and I can't compete with your prices and I don't have Slash's customer base!!

I actually enjoy reading your spam mails.

The whole in-character "Imperial Propaganda" thing amuses me to no end.

It doesn't often influence my purchasing habits, but every now and then I need something I can't find from my regular suppliers and I'll use the waypoints to start looking around.

Now, I'm sure I'd be less than amused if I got 10 or 20 of these a week.

The in-character thing is what does it for me, tho.

I hate the ones that just offer a list of popular/rare items.

I agree with Elyssa. I actually enjoy reading the *good* advertising emails, they tend to be interesting. If you make an interesting, coherant and most importantly, accurately spelled email I don't think people mind as much.

I tend to do 2 different mail's

1. Regular mail when i restock, listing the products in stock

2. special mails. For instance i have a couple of customers who buy alot of damage sliced powerhammers, so when i get something like nice acklay hammers, i send them a mail first to give them teh first shot at the hammers before they go up on the vendor

I send mails after a purchase thanking them for the purchase. I use the Merchant's Friend, so I can check and see if they've bought anything from me before; in those cases I send them a thanks for continuing to buy from me type mail if it's been over a month since their last purchase.

Other than that, I don't send mails. I keep the list, but only twice have Isentout a full customer list mail and that's when I moved my shop from Naboo to Corellia and then to a different location on Corellia. Other than that, I restrict it to immediate business only. I hate getting spam myself, I'm not about to send it out to other people and think they'll react differently.
