That wouldnt really fly, because merchants have the best looking vendors in the game. The Artisan biz 3 gives you vending machines and a small floating droid. It brings me to a couple of solutions. We will use MerchantMan, a master merchant as an example:
1) If MerchantMan drops Advertising your vendor will de-activate, when you re-activate it your options for advertising and barking will be disabled.
2) if MerchantMan drops Efficiency, your maintence on all current items will rise.
3) If MerchantMan drops Hiring, Vendors beyond your hiring skill will de-activate as you know longer possess the skills to keep a happy worker. Also you lose the ability to dress your vendors.
4) If MerchantMan drops Management, All of your vendors will de-activate and you will only be able to re-activate a number of vendors equal to your current management rating.
5) If MerchantMan drops ALL of Merchant, ALL of the vendors except for the ones allowed by Artisan Biz 3 shall "Lock". You cannot pay maintence on them, you cannot add items to the sales list. You can only retrieve items from the vendor or remove it. A grace period shall initiate of no more and no less than 30 days at which time the vendor leaves existence.
6) If MerchantMan drops below Business 3 of the Artisan then review number 5.

Good point. Another reason schematics are a poor example.
