It's worse then I thought, Doc. He believes the world is run by dogs and cats. Is there anything you can do short of putting him down, because he used to be a skillful debater. Its a shame to see him go to waste.

Alright. So Balk's in. Now Balk...that means anytime ANYONE brings this issue up, our job is to go in and tell them that the dev's said it's broken, and that it's going to be fixed, so the entire discussion is moot or academic.

I would keep it as long as I have points to spend, but I'm looking at an Armor/Weaponsmith/Smuggler setup, but I also want a few more combat skills so I can get in a little trouble every now and then. I have my vendor up now and advertising on the bazaar has led to zero sales. Even if I could find a Merchant who would let me place my vendor in their mall I would probably go for it, but once again I'm usually functioning with only 5-10k in my bank account, since most of my profits go back into my harvesters.
Then make the hard choices we all do. We all have 250 skill points to use. You better decide what's most important to you because skills are not supposed to be free. If you don't plan merchandizing as much, drop out of Merchant, reclaim your skill points, AND LEAVE THE VENDORS AND THEIR ENHANCEMENTSBEHIND!! If you decide that merchandizing your goods is your ultimate goal, then keep the skill points invested and drop some other profession.
Skills are not meant to be free to keep, even if you are going to "countinue to pay for the placement".
This is by far not the first post of someone who hops in this forum and asks "can I keep this skill while I drop the skill points?" It is very tiresome. I pray that the person's concience finally gets hold of them and make them realize how they are screwing over the rest of the population by stealing skills.

I have been here for a while...thank you very much. Guess what bud, I'm a merchant, and this is as much my board as yours, post count be damned!
Well congratulations. Welcome to the Profession. I figure you to be an upstanding merchant, unlike some here who are trying to take away skills for free from the profession.
In case you didn't notice, the new guy asked a question about advertising...and to his credit most of the posts are about vendors. He then AGREED WITH YOU, and still you give him crap. Well, I don't treat people like that.
I'm glad he realized in the end what he asked about was truly rediculous.I succeeded in bringing the point across that:
1. Exploiting of this nature is wrong.
2. The Merchant communitity as a whole vehementlydo not appreciate the exploitation of or skills as they stand now.
Was he going to be a merchant? Maybe. It sounds as if he wanted to sell his goods effectively, which would indicate he would like to use some merchant-specific tools. The fact that he wanted to drop skills from merchant doesn't help though.
Was he intended on getting skills for free from the merchant profession? Seems pretty self-evident, even if he was asking nicely first.
Was he finally steered away from exploiting? Thank God, yes. The last thing we need is yet another expoiter.
Be nice, try it some time, then people might be more receptive.
From Marcus Cole on B5, in "Ceremonies of Light and Dark": "Sometimes its better that you use a kind word and a 2X4, than a kind word." I just forgoe the kind word. Still works, doesn't it?

I think its more of a Correspondent and fervent believers rather then community as a whole. Some of us who have been hiding and recently come out in light of the bile towards other players - we seek what is the best solution to the problem of people not wanting to keep merchant, and how not to lose a portion of our customers (people who would be forced to quit rather then buying a second account as for most people working through a merchant is not a viable option - I know of three or four of my major customers who may up and quit if this is implemented badly). Many of us, myself included, think poaching is fundamentally wrong - but we need to find an equitable solution to what has become a long standing way to play the game.
Well arn't you concerned that some of these best customers you haveare not giving the rest of theplayer basea fair shake by using exploits for their own personal gains? If they will be so pissed that the vendor bug will be fixed, is it really in your best interest to associate with these exploiters, especially if they are going to be cry babies about it? I'd start looking for better clients if I were you.
The most equidable solutuion is to tell them that their exploiting days are numbered and to quickly find solutions to thier goods distribution quick, either by hiring Merchants or by investing skills into merchant itself.
I think it may be a case that he seems nicer then the average person, DESPITE your flames he has decided not to poach advertising. I know if I had come in here with a similar question I probibly would have gone ahead and done everything I could just to spite you and your response. Good thing I think Merchant is worth keeping, eh?
Hmm... Lets see... The poponderance of questions that were worded VIRTUALLY THE SAME WAY that were posted earlier on this board suggest otherwise. Most were answered in that friendly feel that you are so longing to hear. Hmm... didn't seem to stop the idiotic flood of these questions, did it? I'll guarentee you that my answers stuck in his mind longer than your friendly, flower-ridden one did.
"The art of Diplomacy is telling somebody to go to hell in a way in which they will look forward to the trip" So no, I think the kind word is very neccisary.
Yeah he thought he was going toa really warm place doing things your way. Whatever... Here's another one for you:
"The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"
