from a 'forums admin' who is not a dev or coder. and 'exploit of sorts'. Yeah.. like P4samwise said.. that really confirms it. Especially if you consider how old that post is, and how the much more recent post where TH -- who in my opinion holds just a bit more authority -- said it was just something that was unintended and scheduled to be fixed.
But hey... interpret it to your own bias. It really doesn't change anything.
You're right, it doesn't change anything

"Fixing" this would increase starport spam 20 fold.
I think if they want to make merchant class truly work as a merchant class, people should be able to place things on your vendor with a set commission going to the merchant once the sale occurs. To prevent a few vendors from monopolizing all the traffic, you can limit the number of people that would have these sorts of rights on a given vendor. Say you limit it to 10 or so.
I deal in a lot of high end items, matching up buyers and sellers. In cases like this I rarely put up cash and take possession of a given item, but instead just arrange a personal meeting between buyers and sellers, and let the seller do the trade with the buyer...taking my commission once the deal is done. It would be real nice if I could apply merchant skills to steamline this process and make my vendor the central point of the transaction.
....of course that might be more of a "broker" than a merchant
