Thread: Coming big patch...
I found in the Architect forum a skill listing that showed Merchant Tent as a low level architect skill. Doesn't sound very expensive for the deed.
I hope that there will be places in the starting cities that they can be placed, there are lots of empty tents there now, plenty of open spaces, and large sections with no meaningful content. I would love to have a merchant for newbies right outside the spaceport to build future big customers!
Well, this sucks. I had assumed all along that one of the reasons that Merchant was so thin in useful skills was that it was going to get a major upgrade with Player Cities. It appears that I'm completely wrong.
Pretty much the last straw for me. I'll be posting my farewell soon.
From what I know merchant tents so far will only be able to be placed in player cities. They are going to be like a TRUE bazaar, the Middle Easter Souks as the above poster mentioned. It looks like players place them in the city, but they may have to have the ability granted to them by a politician who gains it in the skill Zoning I, listed below.
#3 Civic Policy
1. Zoning-Ability-Grant Zoning Rights-Grants target player ability to place a commercial structure such as a cantina for 24 hours.
Beyond this I don't know much, butIbelieve the NPC City bazaars were an idea they were tossing about and I do not think it is coming with the next patch. But I could be wrong.

The merchant tent is made by architects, to be placed in a player city NOT (afaik) in a regular city.
Also, based upon the resource requirements I have seen, they will be a pain to make...the arch who makes it will have to buy stuff from a tailor.
Fortunately for Merchants, it seems that higher level stuff might start requiring cross-class components...and it sure would be nice to buy your GP electronics module and your reinforced fiber panels in the same place.
