Probably what it is and I'm just guessing here, as it's based on MUD experience for bad names. They probably have a text file someplace that gets called up and looked through whenever a name is entered. What it probably has is something to the effect of *han and han* or more likely both entries, so whenever a name that contains han anywhere in it it says it's an invalid name.

Does anyone know if there is a way we can get our hands on what isn't allowed. I wanted to name my vendor "Over the Counter Meds" or at least just "Over the Counter" but it's not allowed. Neither is "OvertheCounter Meds" or "OvertheCounter".

you can't use "mechanic" either, *shrug* heard this from a friend who wants to own a "shop". kinda silly if you tell me.

the filter is absolutely silly, it forces me to spell "wookiee" wrong, and i don't think it likes "enhanced" either... don't remember all the words i tried that didn't work, but there were tons

Hmm...funny that I can use the word Enhanced in my weapons.

Still, that being said the filter in this game is quite possibly one of the silliest Ive come across. Sit at Coronet or Theed one day, and start writing down the offensive and/or plain stupid names you come across. I promise youll go through several biros.

HA....thats nothing.....I put the word "Doctor" in the title and I got the same thing?!? DOCTOR!! Give me a break. So I had to find an alternate way of putting it. "Dr." Wow...what a concept.

Dunno how that works, but I thought it was funny. LOL

Not only Counter, Country, County, etc...

This filter is really odd, since the only thing i can see being offensive within these words is the four letter C word.

The filter has odd behaviour, and certainly shouldn't claim that failures are due to obscenity, but a few general rules seem to let you pick something that will work.

The obvious "dirty words" are prohibited as are many (but not all) variations on them.

It won't allow use of "reserved words" that are used by the systemfor items, professions, races, ranks, titles etc. This seems to include more than currently used, butthings that are likely possibilities.

Punctuation seems to be limited to hyphens and single quotes -- possibly periods too.

I havn't seen a lot of failures staying within those constraints, though new "reserved words" regularly suprise me. It gets easier with experience, but it doesn't make the kind of sense you can document.

I think they apply the same base algorithm to the text that they use to validate BE pets on call :-)

I just wish they would let us know what we can and can't say. Like the DMV has a list of plates you can't have, just a text file of all the words we can't use would be super. I figured out that "The" and "Count" were the words that I couldn't use which makes Over The Counter pretty impossible to say. I narrowed it down to OTC Medsbut then alot of people don't know what that stands for. Oh well. Maybe they will open it anyway lol

And actually it is Lucas Arts that controls the StarWars liscence and these filters not SOE.

If the filtering code is written by SOE , and the filter says that anything with *han* in the word is violating the naming restrictions then it's SOE's fault.. They should add an exception list with common words containing filtered words or write a filter which checks to see if the word your are typing is contained in the dictionary or something along those lines so it doesn't get confused like it's doing now...

Lucas Arts will just tell them the words and names people can't use not write the code, Lucas Arts doesn't tell them you can't use the word "Hang" because it contains "Han" as they don't own the right's to the word "Hang" and using the word hang is clearly not offensive, like "Hanging Basket" ..

It's SOE who needs to polish up their filtering system.

I was going to suggest trying OTC but then I'm a pharmacy assistant IRL so I have to know what it means
