Thread: Making Merchant the profession it should be

Right now, if you want vendors you have to have Merchant skill.

Myidea allows you to sell on a Vendor without having the skills. Thought that would make people happy. Guess there's just no pleasing some people.

ah. but the problem with that is that you are then turning another profession INTO an armorsmith profession -- you aren't removing it.

removing merchant and giving everybody vendors = removing armorsmith and giving everybody armorcrafting skills.

or are you stupid?

You guys aren't back to the "Merchant is equal to any master crafter in skill and importance" thing are you?

99% of all people in this game that have Merchanttake Merchant simply as a "utility", not because they want to be a pure bred merchant. If you took a poll of all people that play this game (last time I saw numbers it was close to 500k people) and asked them if they thought the Merchant profession was relevent, I'm fairly certain that the vast majority would say no. However we seem to be stuck with it. So instead of the self ritious BS that hard core Merchants(the whole 5? per server)seem to be sticking to, perhaps we should work together to make the Game better instead of simply thinking on a profession by profession basis out of selfishness.

I'd make a list of the "top 10" most common complaints by all professions in this game but it would all revolve around the "ME ME ME" factor, the most prevelent theme in this game is self ritious egotistical bull $hit that always comes back to the "why isn't my profession more important than this other one" "why don't I make more money than this guy" " why can't myprofession out damage this other one". Not once have I ever seen a realistic team effort between 2 professions to try and work out a common problem, Honestly if there was a nerf going through that would hurt Weapon Smiths, but make the game better for all who played, I'd be happy to swallow that nerf. I clearly stand alone.

ofim, you make a fair point, but it isn't based in reality... the 'me me me' mentality isn't coming from the merchants.. it's coming from all the exploiting scum who think they have a right to vendors... when they don't. It directly comes back to them wanting our valuable skills for free... as all their posts eventually come down to. If that 'nerf' you will swallow would be the complete removal of weaponsmith profession and the dispersion of it's skills to others, I think you'd suddenly choke up.

You talk of being willing to accept 'nerfs' if it will better the game as a whole... well the 'nerf' those scum are espousing is essentially the complete removal of merchant. In my opinion, they can go and burn in hell...along with anyone who supports them.

i'd just like to see the ability to manage vendors dissapear when the skills are dropped.

giving permissions would be nice too.. but AFTER we get some interface chages.. just a simple "list multiple items for 1 price" change would make me OH so happy!!.. and its such a simple change.. the changes your talking about require alot of coding.

"You must first fire a vendor before you can drop this skill"

That's the fix that should have went in.

The problem was that you want the profession a vendor crafter instead of an actual merchant. I know a few merchants that don't want to craft, ever. They want to sell. Thereis asignificant difference between crafting and selling.

No, thats not what I proposed. Crafting vendors never came into it. Managing business does.

Placing items on a vendor, reposting them, these aren't what makes a merchant. Location, advertising, management...these are what make a merchant. If you want Merchant to sell items you craft, then this isn't for you. If you want Merchant to sell what others craft, then this proposal makes sense. The crafters stock the vendor with their wares, you manage it. You are responsible to insure your suppliers keep the vendor stocked, for advertising and managing the shop.

I'm not asking that Merchants make vendors to sell to others, but to control vendors that others can use similar to the bazaar system but without the price/item # caps.

In this manner, a business such as "Beevo's Bountiful Bounty Hunter Supply Superstore" could come into play. Our intrepid Merchant, one "Beevo", decides he wants to supply Bounty Hunters with the wares for their profession. What to do?

First, a Weaponsmith to supply LLC's, Pistols and Carbines. Then, an Armorsmith to supply armor's and PSG's. A Droid Engineer for crates of Seeker and Tracker droids is also needed. A smuggler for spices, an artisan for power-ups, a medic for stimpaks, a chef for food....

Now, Beevo wants to keep his BH customers happy, so he places his shop in the bad part of town, near a BH trainer. He also decorates in Nouveaux Scum for the hip and with-it BH's....

Beevo doesn't craft anything, but will have many happy customers of his specialized wares. His suppliers come in and provide stock and Beevo keeps track of what is in stock and gets on anyone letting the supplies run too low.

This is what my proposal would allow. Not Merchant Vendor Merchant Vendor's.

And like it has been said before.. removing armorsmith would hurt the majority of players in the game. Removing the merchant profession, but keeping vendors, wouldn't hurt anyone -- especially since 90% of the abilities that make a successful merchant are NOT profession related/granted.

Removing Armorsmith and giving all the armorcrafting to other professions does NOT hurt every other player in the game. It only hurts those who want to be armorsmiths.

Wouldn't hurt me a bit. It's the materials and experience (and 12 point suit) I've collected over the past year that make me an armorsmith, the skill that can be mastered in a days grind by anyone are such a minor part of the proffession I wouldn't worry if every noob on the server had em.

I wouldn't mind an interface to "rent out" vendors to people. Provided at any time I feel they aren't keeping it stocked, I can completely and utterly delete it from my store.

I would like to see a way to make global price changes. Such as change all prices on 2-h Swords to 5000 credits.

Or maybe a way to add vendor discounts, either for sales or to factions or certain people.

I also think that you should not be able to drop merchant skills unless you completely destroy your vendors. I will hopefully make master merchant tonight or tomorrow morning(going the slow route, no entry fee). I was going to master artisan, WS, and AS then put the rest in Merchant, but the discounts, vendor options, barker droid, and merchant tent were all too much to pass up.

More fun than the "game",doesn't cost $15 a month. As a merchant you should appreciate the business sense of that.
