Thread: I say we all walk away if it goes live...or at least go on strike.

The only major problem with a strike is that not all parties will "strike" when it's time to step up to the plate. There will be some that will take advantage of this, step into the newly opened spots, and make a fortune. In essence, will have VERY LITTLE effect on anything. Trust me, it's been done in other MMORPGs, and there are always people there to fill in the gaps. It sucks, but it's true.
Sorry to burst your bubble. =(

it can work with the help of the non crafters too....they stand to feel the crunch of this stocking issue...sure someone may try to fill the void, but the demand will over run the ability to supply. They can help bring about this too..I will spread the word on my server Intrepid to some of the major producing vendors and we will look to do a combined effort to bring something forth...think of this as our own rebellion...well we've been looking for content...here it is.

What about putting large access fees on every building merchants have vendors on? If we all did this - as a group - wouldn't the message be heard?
I am less worried about losing my client base to those that jump in and try and steal it while we are trying to keep this game fun for everyone. I have been a crafter and a merchant for a year.
Another idea would be to put an anti-nerf message in your item description when you place it on bazaar or vendors - educating the buyers on why specifically they will see a drop in your merchandise and where to complain (write SOE directly) and the forums address. To many people never go to the messageboards and are uninformed about upcoming patches etc. The sitin last night at Theed was great - yeah we all got threatened but it was fun (perhaps most fun I have had in game for awhile) and uplifting to see the support of other players to those of us that craft.

Trystian,
Why should folks like me who SUPPORT the new item limits join you in going on strike.
I'm known for my low-priced armor on my server. But if other folks go on strike I will raise my prices to the new market level and just rake in the cash.
It would hurt the server for you to go on strike. But if prices get high enough new folks will grind out the skills to fill the gap.

Yep. I *knew* you supported this for selfish reasons...
How are the stats on that armor? Is it top 5%?10%? Even in the top 50%?

The way I look at it, SOE is doing more than enough to hurt ALL players of the game with its present string of foolhardy decisions.
The very last thing I want to do is make anyone else's game experience less enjoyable in the face of SOE's idiocy.
I can't support a strike.
Instead, I'm going to try to figure out alternative distribution channels, so my customers can still buy plenty of quality stuff from me, and so their customers can continue to buy the great stuff they produce.

Hi,
I dont know what you guys do, but I am part of a small group of people who will quit their accounts if this goes live. That will be a total of 10 Accounts cancelled the day this, or anything else thats just unusable, goes live.
Our accounts are paid for at least 3 months, but hey, this is all we can do, and what we will do. There are other games, SWG is not the only one, even if it is a real good one so far, assuming they will not destroy the game any further.

Ubese is 72% kinetic
Kinetic Composite is 80% kinetic 80% electfic 68% base (hoping to hit 69 next run)
Stun Compo is 39% stun 62% base this coming run.
Percentage wise? There are folks who have higher base than mine but not all that much higher without use of looted components. I think mine is at least "ok."

Yeah, those numbers are pretty good (assuming HAM doesn't suck).
If that's true, you're producing some of the top quality armor in the galaxy. You've got to be selling out reasonably frequently.
So tell me why you're so in favor of a system that will cripple not only EVERYONE in the game, but yourself too.

Nice idea, won't work. You won't get everyone to do it.
The only way this would work is if those people who are the "Uber Crafters" (such as all 'renown' weaponsmiths) lock their doors for a period of 2-4 weeks. That MIGHT make them notice, but the time and effort to revert the code back to the old way without removing all the rest they put in probably wouldn't be worth it to them. Not to mention, as Joined just so eloquently demonstrated in this thread, there will be those who take advantage of the strike and therefore people really won't be all that inconvienced.
From reading these boards, I am amazed that SWG is still seeing any sort of climb in numbers.

Sigrun,
I have yet to sell out of anything except Ubese (because I started out pricing Ubese at under 60k to get folks to come into my shop). It's now at 75k. And the next run which I'm going to have to use my good wooly rather than crummy wooly my alt gathered is going to be even higher.
I'm for the limits because I don't want to have to spam starports and I want folks to buy from my friends who are also some of the new entrants to the market.
I don't want to have to compete for customer loyalty on the basis of who has the most thousands of suits of armor backlogged on their vendor. I want customers to use all the smiths. I want new entrants to have a good chance to compete against me, against the good, nice veteran smiths (and there are a few like Oman and Chumm on our server but they aren't high volume at present). And most importantly I want the new smiths to have a chance to compete against the arrogant 12-point crafters who buy up AS experimentation items and bid the price of them up so that the newer folks have a hard time.
I think on our server folks would benefit from their usual suppliers running out because the newer folks are competing primarily on price. But if you always buy your armor from one person you will keep going back to that shop so long as it is stocked. Force of habit. This "nerf" breaks force of habit and lets me and my friends get a decent share of the market. And once someone has bought from us...hmmm...they usually don't go back to the expensive smiths unless it's for PVP armor and they absolutely have to have the best.
This so-called nerf will be both good for the newer smiths and good in the long run for customers on my server. The customers just don't know it yet.

How do limits on the number of items you can sell on your vendor prevent you from "having to spam at starports"? I don't see the correlation. Several*real* solutions to this have been proposed.
Further, aren't there better ways to get people to buy from your friends? Like maybe allowing them to put their vendors near yours?

New entrants have a great opportunity to compete against you. Did you start Armorsmith when the game opened? (Seems unlikely given your forum handle.). You worked your way up to armorsmith without having this concession. Why do you think others need it?
Oh, wait, you said it right in that paragraph. You are offended by the arrogance of 12-point smiths and want them to be nerfed for their arrogance. The real solution: Kill stuff that drops good skill tapes or pay what it costs to get them. FS crafting will help with this too.

No, you'll keep going back to that shop as long as the price is reasonable and the quality is consistent and the vendor is stocked AND YOU AREN'T PRESENTED WITH A BETTER ALTERNATIVE. The better solution to that last is to improve advertising capabilities. What have your "friends" done to improve prospective customers' awareness of their goods? Who knows they're selling armor? Who knows how good it is and how much it costs?
This so-called nerf will be both good for the newer smiths and good in the long run for customers on my server. The customers just don't know it yet.
No. It will mean that the established armorsmiths will run out of high quality goods and customers will be forced to purchase inferior quality goods for the same or greater prices. Maybe I'm just daft, but I don't think that I would want to pay $50k for a Yugo when I could pay $35k for a BMW...
