I already have to hit up a Master Artisan every week for GP and MM modules, and an Armorsmith on occasion, not to mention making DSCs for folks, so I understand interdependancy. If there was any merchant out there willing to buy bulk droids and stock hundreds of items themselves, or if it was possible to 'rent' a vendor I'd do it in a second. It's just not possible to 'hire' a merchant the way things are set up right now.

Sorry no offense meant. It's just that you when you said that one combat prof wasn't enough I just made a wrong assumption. For an all around casual player who just wants to do some stuff in the game and doesn't care about "pwnage"one elite combat prof is plenty IMO.

None taken, just sharing my point of view. It's unfortunate that the devs decided to take this action now instead of providing merchants with proper tools to really be a merchant. Just stocking and restocking is quite a pain.

Your bio-engineer is seriously borked without explore 4. If you want to get the DNA necessary to make market qualityanimals (yes, even those nice CL10 mounts we all love) you must be able to mask scent. Remember, a lowly kreetle breaks mask all the time. This is why we buy those nice mask scent outfits from tailors and drink jawa beer all the time.

That may leave justenough points for business 3. I'm not sure because I don't have the skill point requirements in front of me. The soda machine that only holds 100 items isn't going to cut it if your BE wants to sell chef/tailor tissues, pet meds, and animals.

I'd love to be able to rent a vendor from a master merchant. Why isn't that an option?

I think we merchants can agree with the BE community that the BE templates are the weakest of the proposed templates.

I would probably run a good BE shop out of a city mall given the option. (Of course it would NOT be a consignment situation. And many BEs have second accounts. What can be done for the poor 1-account BE though? They have to do most transactions in person or as special orders? What will become of pet stim vendors?

For the same reason you can't rent a doctor's ability to buff you. You get him to perform a service for you. The service we provide is selling things 24/7 in large quantities.

Well then I suggest (as other have made a point for the merchant class) that we just get rid of BE entirely and farm it's skill out to the other crafting professions. Then I could make new thing that I could before without expending the skill points. As you stated (actually more like inferrred), BE's are useless anyways.

Cheers

I appreciate this post and I wish the sentiment expressed here was really the case. But, the fact the both BE posts made in this thread were one starred gives you a pretty good indication what the real mind set is.

Anyone with two accounts can run a crafting business and have a master merchant regardless of what that crafting business is. If everyone had two accounts the whole merchant vendor issuewould bepretty moot. Of course not everyone is willing to pay SOE twice to play the same game (I know people with 4 accounts).

Merchants sell product. Do merchants have to sell products they make themselves? No. Many RL merchants sell products made in far off lands. Do they turn a profit? Ask Walmart that question. Scouts make products, doctors make products, smugglers make products, rangers make products, combat medics make products. Why is it that there are a trillion craftspeople in SWG but merchants are only willing to sell product they themselves make? Why is it not an option to rent a vendor from a master merchant?

Bio-Engineer:

  • Master BE
  • One elite combat profession mastery
  • Scout 1/0/4/0 - Some terrain negotiation
  • Novice merchant - 750 items, 3 vendors

this may work fine IF you never plan on making any critters. i dare you to try and get close enough to any rancor with only scout 1/0/4/0 and try and stand withint 10 meters of the said rancor for atleast 1 minute. it cant be done

BE that want to make critters need Mask scent and must have exploartion 4 to stand a chance of getting near rancors, mind you that i use jawa beer and +25 cover scent be tissue to help out. Some BE even gett master scout so there mask scent can be in the +125 range or higher

So before you make you list of what skill you think everone should have try the proffession first or get to know those that do play the proffession for more then just grinding.

Do we really want to make it a requirement that everyone has merchant (or at least business 3 in artisan) or to have merchant being a profession of mules? I don't have a problem having one of my characters on Test Center being a dedicated merchant, but that still makes it a mule. Far better as far as I'm concerned, to make it easier for merchants to be merchants. We should provide a service to those other characters, not require them to sacrifice their preferred playstyle in order to be able to sell their goods.

Sadly, I dont see any resolution to any of these concerns until the Devs give us the tools we need to develop relationships with people. I cant afford to pay 10 crafters a million a week to get product. Maybe after a few months I can accumulate this kind of bank, but to "launch" a Store is impossible for all but those (more common than you think) hundreds of millions of credit Crafters. i know one on my server who hints at a 10 or 11 digit bank balance (respected, not a blowhard).

Yes, your template will be borked if you have to take up Merchant again. Yes, we do not have the tools we need to ensure a safe business relationship. No, I cant buy 25 suits of composite from you to re-sell....unless you give me a discount...no?...sorry then.

I wish SOE would give us a "big-picture" of what they see they game to be like around the beginning of next year. Help us to understand why you make these incomprehensible decisions. We're (mostly) smarter than you think. We're also a lot more forgiving that you might expect, IF you treat us well.

Okay so i made a mistake in this one, so we put an extra 12 points into scout and drop some fighting skills

BE is a hybrid profession and as such you will have to make sacrificaes to use it, same as i do as a commando and same as others do as BHs etc.

All fine and good except a Bio-Engineer must have Exploration IV as a minimum too or he cannot DNA sample at master level.
With Doctors and combat medics and bio-engineers, what, they need not have survey IV to gather their own resources?
*wink wink*

Seems like you would have to make a choice, harvest the componants yourself and offer your product up to a vendor, or Visit a resource vendor and sale your product from your own vendor.

For the 'all rounder' you're forgetting you need medic skills too. Just one elite combat prof isn't all that effective.

With the armor and buffs we currently have, you can get by without stim b's in the avg "all rounder" situation. Theres still the option of "grouping" with a medic as well.
