Personally I think 1k, maybe even like 500 items is reasonable for each vendor. Don't get me wrong, I have 20 factories pumping out armor and I hate stocking as much as the next guy but the current state of the economy is not healthy. A few elite smiths are cornering the entire market and for the most part the "work" involved is who can spam more at starports.
Do the math, how many people play on your server and how much are you stocking. This is not real life. The point is to have fun, not only for you, but for everyone. I'm sure it's great fun to be rolling in 5mil a day or whatever, but because of you many others are making less if not nothing. It is still possible to make huge coin, but now the effort expended is more equal to the reward.
I want to capture this in casesomeone tries to edit it.
Who thinks one player should be able to operate 20 factories? They can under the current admin system. This is part of what makes oligopolies possible. Devs, please balance character lots at the same time as you do this so we don't have a lot of cross-lot trades to save all those hoarded loots from deletion.
There are other changes that need to be made in addition to the vendor caps, but this is certainly a good start. Look at this. Another master armorsmith who supports the caps. Excellent!! Good for the profession, I say.

The point is you're not supposed to be able to stock your vendors with thousand runs of items and completely corner the market making newer/smaller crafters completely unable to compete
I dont see it as cornering a market..I sell my good and two others from my small house. I buy everything in advanced and them sell them equal to there prices on there vendors on there merchants off world..
So i have more stuff then just mine. SO i get alot of business at my shop so that the customer doesnt have to run around to other shops looking for stuff.
On top of that if i take the time to learn more then one skill and work my way up it and then gather enough money to support enough items to "corner" a market they why should i be able to keep it..mind you its is impossible to corner anymarket in the game..anyone who is master at ther crafting profession can do as well as me. No it wont come over night. it takes time for your name to get around and get popular. So the "newer/smaller crafter is going to have to pay his dues and work hard to make a name for him self just like I did. Mind Im still a nobody. I dont get requests for special orders i dont get emails asking for something..
SO tell me why the new guy should ahve it easier then me.
The only reason that cant compete is that have taken the time to get the resources and the time to get to master..once youve got both and a good spot to sell your wares you will do fine regardless if your next to a big shop with 20 vendors in it with everything..
So your theory is wrong...
