Thread: NO way I can run my shop with this NERF!!!! sign if you feel the same!!!
As a Master Tailor, I have one BE vendor with about 150 items, and a non-BE vendor with over 1000. I cannot run my shop, and provide vendors for guildies with no merchant skill if this nerf goes live.
I've never been mad enough to bother with the boards before, and the way most games work, this won't make any difference.
But they really need to consider the following: we are a completely (nearly) player-based economy. It is very, very dangerous to tick off a large group of merchants.
First, I have to say I'm very glad they'll delete empty vendors. I run a successful shop largely because I stock EVERY day and my vendors do not go empty. As a Master Merchant, each of my vendors is stocked with well over 110 items, and my customers appreciate the selection.
Did I mention I'm a tailor?
What will happen in my profession: that's simple:
1. You will not be able to find anything that is not black, white, black-and-red, or red. If you want purple or green, tough beans.
2. Sorry, Wookies and Twilek. No more special one-race-only items.
3. No more "bargain line." I had been selling some of the artisan-line since, once someone masters tailor, there's really no reason not to make the basic boots and dresses, but in our fine array of colors. With only 110 items per vendor, I will have to make most of my stock in the "expensive" range since it's not worthwhile for me to stock the "basic" 500 credit black boot anymore.
4. Since clearly I will be spending all of my time keeping each vendor at 110 every freaking moment, I will not have time (or interest) in doing special orders.
5. Judging by the reaction of many of my colleagues, we will also have fewer master crafters since we're already feeling slighted by having to Master Merchant as it IS, point-wise. But doing it for only 660 items in stock at a given moment? Why bother crafting at all? That's a lot of points that could go into the real money-making professions.
After all is said and done, this nerf is not thought out. Sure, people use vendors as storage. If there's a way to exploit anything, people will. But why punish legitimate businesspeople?
SWG is one of the only games EVER that is trying to run a completely player-based economy. If developers continue along this path destined to annoy the merchants and crafters, the game will fail. The economy will fall apart if enough people abandon their work.
They really need to think long and hard about what benefit there is to doing this and if it will outweigh the number of very necessary artisans there are in this game leaving their professions, abandoning their shops, and, in many cases, leaving the game.
The player-based economy is one of the few draws of this game to me. The writing needs a lot of help, the replay value isn't particularly stellar, it's way too easy to max out a character given the sheer speed with which we can grind through most non-crafter professions and the ridiculously low number of points given that, and as for role-playing, I'm on the bloody RP-suggested server and I never see it (except for EQ-type people who run around throwing in thees and thous randomly, which gets on my nerves to no end). When all is said and done, though, I have always appreciated the player-based economy idea and how it seems to be working out.
Until now.
I ground out Master Tailor BY HAND. I never macroed. It was a LOT of work (and when I find you can easily do Master Medic, Master Doctor, or a host of other professions in a good, uninterrupted day or two, I get really upset), but here I am contemplating dropping it.
If I can't have a high-quality shop, why bother? I'm already stymied half the time by lack of space in my shop. If I keep components inside, I can't make a good display since the housing limits are so ridiculously low given the size of the houses.
But why limit my vendors, and thus my customers?
Is it worth doing this to make everyone look like clones? And is it worth driving out the class of people, without whom, this game would FAIL? Anyone can pick up medic and stim himself and anyone can pick up entertainer and dance, but how else are you going to get a robe of honor without coming to talk to me? And where are you going to get your composite armor or decent weapon or brandy? And at the end of the day, where are you going to put all of this stuff?

The devs dont want single crafters to monopolise the economy, they dont want 1 crafter able to supply the whole servers needs removing all competition....
Personally I dont agree these changes are going to help anyone but saying that this sucks because you wont be able to stock thousand runs of items is unlikely to convince them that they've made the wrong decision

Id like to comment on this-- People go to him because he is one of the best armorsmiths on the server. As such it compels him to keep fully stocked vendors. He takes pride in the work he does and our servers cheers his accomplishments. If he has a corner on the market which I dont think he does, he deserves it. That said he also deserves to play this game and not sitin his tent to make sure he has stock. What if I dont play at the same time as him. I could miss out on stock time and always be ass out on the best stuff. Putting these kind of limits will put alot of people out of busines as no one wants to rush home from work , grab your drink of choice, turn on the tunes, and go to work again. I play this game to relax not work.
Sony should work on things that need fixing, yes we want empty vendors gone but what i wann know is who was the lame ass dev who said hey while were at it lets really screw with them and put caps on vendors. They didnt ask for it so maybe this will teach them to complain to us about our broken **edit**.
