Goal: To provide an easy to use search interface that brings consumers and merchants together for the purpose of intergalactic commerce and solve the problem of consumers having to search through multiple vendors in many locations manually to find merchandise they are seeking while also perserving the merchant profession playstyle and promoting economic development.
The Vendor Changes:
--------------------
Skill Mods: Planetary Bazaar Advertising granted at Advertising I.
Galactic Bazaar Advertising granted at Advertising IV.
A merchant with Planetary/Galactic Bazaar Advertising will have the ability to register their vendor on the Bazaar by clicking "Enable Planetary/Galactic Listing" from the radial menu of each vendor.
An additional option will appear on the vendor radial: Merchant Shop Description. This description is a brief text field used by merchants to describe their business and list the types of merchandise they carry and other relevent information they would like to tell their potential customers.
The "Sell an Item" screen will include a checkbox "List on Galactic/Planetary Bazaar" this will default to checked if Bazaar Advertising is enabled. It will not show up at all if Bazaar Advertising is disabled. Unchecking this item will exempt this ONE item from the bazaar.
The "Sell an Item" Screen will include a button which works simularly to the house admin/ban/entry lists that allows you to enter specific people or guilds that can purchase this item. This allows merchants to create a cusom order or give special deals to specifc people. Using this button will automatically remove the item from the Galactic/Planetary Bazaar.
The "Sell an Item" screen will include an unlimited price auction option simular to the 6k capped version on the bazaar now. These auctions will be allowed to be listed on the bazaar.
The Bazaar Changes
-------------------
The Vendor Location Tab will contain the "Galaxy" and "Planet" filter options.
Below the Planet option will be a text search string box that allows you to filter your search by a string that will be matched against all items in the selected category both in the default name and the custom name. A listing will be returned that includes the Name of the item, the name of the vendor (replacing the current location which is useless), the distance from the current bazaar terminal and any access fee on that building. There will be four options for each row represented by buttons at the bottom of the screen:
Create Waypoint: Creates a waypoint to the current shop. The waypoint includes the name and description of the shop that the merchant set with that vendor.
View Details: Will show details about the item. This window will have a "Watch this sale" button. Selecting this option will send you an email if this item is sold within the next 24 hours. There is no remote purchase option. The window will also allow you to "View Vendor" (Described below)
View Vendor: Will open a listing of all the items listed on the vendor where that item resides. And will include a description of the shop that the merchant has included on this vendor. A button at the bottom will allow you to create a waypoint to this vendor that includes the name of the vendor.

Great idea! Now that's what I'd call a real alternative to the horrible SOE concept.

I *want* global buying options. I don't want my customers to be forced to come out to my shop to pick up the items they bought from me.
I truly hate this idea.

I like your proposal, even though I doubt it will be implemented

It's amazing how similar this plan is to the one we've been asking for all along!

It's almost like this isn't the first time you've thought about the issue.

What are you insinuating? Are you suggesting that I've been peddling ideas like this one for more than a year? And that any dev who wanted to read alternative ideas could have just dropped by for a visit and read them before posting, then implementing the current abomination? Shocking suggestion Elyssa!!!

I'm not saying anything.
It's just that you seem to know quite a bit about the merchant profession and have a fairly solid grasp on what is and isn't good for the profession and, by extension, the economy as a whole.
It's almost like you've been on the "inside" before.
The change to your sig makes me sad.

I rogered up in support of Doc last time on this (and the previous year's worth of suggestions too). The only thing I would change is LIMITING searches to either the player city the search terminal is in, or the general area it says you sell something from (has anyone ever mapped these crazy area names out?), or galaxy-wide at Master Merchant, AS PER the description on the profession window.

This is what I have said I want, just with greater detail
Excellent post! I'd love to see some change come about because of it
