Hey all, I run some vendors but have dropped my merchant skills

there is a lot of talk about "you can't have vendors after next publish" without the skills

I have checked these boards several times trying to see if there was an official statement of what is going to happen to current vendors, all I have is hearsay.

what happening to current vendors if you don't have merchant skills anymore?

are they going to be inoperable? will they go poof?

is there going to be an item limit on each vendor?

is there an actual statement?

I do think merchant has some issues, but the selling and storage problems that would result if hald these changes went through would be insane. There are tons of master crafters that rely on the vendors they have and simply cant go back through and get the skill points again

please let me know if anyone has answers

They should still have the skillboxes. If they dont, they were exploiting.

I don't believe there are any changes planed for the next publish. That last official word we had was Pub 11 but that might or might not still be the case becasue of the shakeup of the schedule with Smugglers.

The changes when they come are not likely to include immediate deletion of vendors but will likely have some short time frame during which you will have a chance to get back into compliance or move the stock off the vendor. This is essential. We are not trying to get merchandise deleted here. The only goal is to stop the mis-appropriation of skill perks from the merchant profession.

I agree, it is important to allow nonmerchants time to unstock their vendors or come into skill point compliance. I hope this vendor issue does not keep getting pushed back further and further. I have maintained my master merchant status proudly, but I have to admit if this goes unaddressed for months, then I have months to do something else productivewith my skillpoints until they are actually 'needed' in the merchant profession.

It isnt an exploit, SOE made it that way we just taking advantage of extra SP.

No, it is not an exploit per say or the CSRs would be deleting vendors and banning people. You are however wrong in that SOE did NOT make it that way. It is a game mechanics bug and will be fixed. It was never intended for peopel to be able to use own or use vendors without having the appropriate skills from either merchant or business in artisan. It will eventually be fixed.

SOE did not make it that way.

From 19 Questions to TH on 4-22-2004

Merchant: Currently there is a lot of debate about the fact that there is no skill point check for managing vendors. Is it the intent of the development team that vendors operate normally even when owned by players who no longer have the Management skill required to place that vendor?

It was never intended for players to be able tokeep and manage vendors after surrendering the Management skill boxes used to acquire them. This is scheduled to be fixed in a future publish and we want to upgrade vendors also, but it’s a bit early to start talking about that.

Finally, someone that confesses that what they are doing is stealing skill points. Hey dumba$$, that's exploiting. It's just that for some stupid reason, SOE has found no reason to ban your a$$.

this is such a joke. I don't get why people get upset when people drop merchant and keep their vendors. I plan to do it. Merchant is a WASTE of a profession and a complete waste of skill points. If they should fix anything, they should completely remove the skill point cost for it and make it like they are talking about making the pilot professions for JTLS. I am not even sure how they can justify those not taking skill points if they are going to require merchants to take skill points -- because at least as a pilot you can continue to use your pilot skills as you fly once you master. Merchant is a completely passive profession that once you master you can't do ANYTHING with because you set up vendors and then it's over. Don't complain about people who use the system in the only way that makes sense, complain about the system that doesn't make sense.

One wonders if you will hold that opinion once they fix the loophole.

yeah, I will. because if/when they ever do fix merchant, it will still not have any active role in the game aside from setting up vendors, and to me, that isn't a profession. it is a utility that should be available to everyone without locking up 92 skill points.

oh, but the 'utility' doesn't cost 92 skill points... if you just want a vendor it will cost you what? 36 skillpoint for business 3...and that's only if you have nothing invested in artisan. There you go.. what more do you want? Oh.. wait.. you want more vendors.. you want more 'skills'.. you want more benefits of the profession.

combat and merchant are two totally different professions in this game... don't compare one to the other. As I've said before combatants shoot things and get better at shooting things as they advance.

Merchants sell things.. and get better at selling things as they advance.

To me a utitlity is shooting things... why should I have to pay skill points to shoot things? I have the gun.. i should be just as effective as a master combatant. that's ALL you are saying. doesn't sound so good in that light does it?
