From the Friday Feature, scroll to bottom:

It says you have to sell an item to a vendor for it to be "touched".

It also says a sale to a customer resets the timer too.
For the record I did not get a preview of that text before it went out in the Friday Feature.

Yet it says you authored the article, which I saw was basically a reworded version of your guide, so yes, I figured as much.
As for them saying that a sale causes it to reset too, I saw that, but was under the impression that the merchant ALSO had to touch the vendor. Well, hopefully any customer buying an item resets it as well. I know alot of players have no power due to the hurricanes.

so now we know.
this is unacceptable, unfair, and excessively harsh. it is also, in my opinion, wrong for them to have worked with the community on these vendor changes and to hide the fact that this policy was going in from us during that discussion.
this policy has a far greater impact on the profession than the number of vendors we are allowed and the number of items we are allowed to list. and in my opinion they had to know this.
and for this reason, I feel that I have been intentionally deceived by the developers on this issue.
that said: can we getthis changed?
I think the majority of us are in agreement on this: a vendor for which the player has the skills, for which the maintenance is paid, and which is not empty, should never be in danger of deletion, because there is a lull in sales of because the merchant wants to take a RL vacation.

I don't know. I'll present the case.

I have 3 vendors in my house, with different things on each vendor. If it should happen that one vendor (for example the one with Droids) doesn't get visited for a few days or even weeks, i'd hate to think that it could be deleted and wiped clean if I were to take a vacation at that same time!
Change it.
Period.

Please do doc. As it is I have several plans to work around this issue but no real interest in doing so. I would most likly drop Merchant if this policy remains in effect and I am likly not the only one. A shame really as I am one of those "pure" merchants. Meaing I sell the works of others for others. I have resources for sale but most of my resource sales are person to person or the bazaar and the vendors sell crafter items I have bought wholesale

This needs to be changed.
I'm not so worried about my Tools & Packs vendor, or my Drinks venodor, or my Bakery vendor, I am a little concerned about my Weapons Power up vendor....it seems to sell slowly.

this HAS to get changed and asap, its a unacceptable and totally unneeded 'feature'.
you got skills, you got maintain in and you have items in it, just cause you dont touch or a customer dont do it, shall never cause a deletion. period!
what comes next? a mauintained house which u not visit within 2 weeks go poof? god, they need to turn on their brain while devfelopping such things :/

*sigh* We have sales for 30 days. Stockroom is now 30 days. Both of these changes made the merchant's life so much better. But now we get this new stealthed in feature of use it or lose it? And it's a 2 week deadline -- not 30 days? Come on! At least be consistent people!
Merchant seemed to be the perfect fit for a casual gamer. And I chose Tailor as the perfect casual crafting profession too. Yet it seems every time I turn around they change merchant to be less and less casual player friendly. My game is turning into a job. One with silly, irritating, boring and time consumingchores.

I agree this is simply unexcusable. If a vendor is "untouched" for 6 weeks all the items will fall off and it will become "empty" and delete anyway.
This "unused deletion of valid, FULL vendors" is just going to cause active players to loose their inventory while on vacation/ or distracted by something else (in game like FS quests, or in RL). Active merchants that start loosing their wares are going to quit... which makes this self defeating, unless, as the previous poster put it, they simply want to cut down on the subset of their subscribers that includes those with merchants.

Im going to go merchant with a second character, and agree that this MUST be changed, for a very simple reason:
Until you are able to register your merchant so it shows up on the global map, you will get VERY LITTLE traffic. Most of the merchants who can not do this, are also just starting out and may not have some awesome inventory to sell when everyone else is selling perfected items through months of collecting resources.
Secondly, even if you can register on the global map, AND you are in a good location, you still have to compete with the 20 or 30 other shops on the map selling the same things that you are.
If I have to, Ill put things up for 1cr on my vendor, and buy one with my other character occasionally, but as another player said, I really dont want to have to spend time playing headgames with the devs.
