Am8 of mine wants to get the mission terminal vendor type (the orange one) but he doesn't have enough SP.
Can he drop advertising, go up the hiring tree, place the orange vendors, then drop hiring again for advertising without his NPC vendors stopping the ad barking?
greetings

Do you really think that is fair?

Vendor vocalization is the most useless thing imaginable. Since the first week I played SWG I have ignored everything that the vendors have said. I would pay good money for a UI option to shut all the vendors up permanently. Really.

Doc... This isn't about 'fair'. who would he not be being 'fair' to? To other merchants? They have the same opportunities he does.. if they choose not to make use of it.. how is that unfair? You all need to get over this trip that there is some sense of morality here. If the code works one way... and is NOT a bug.. then how is it wrong to make use of the code? Even if the DEVs decide they want to change it because they don't like how it works.. that doesn't make anyone that uses the feature wrong or unfair.
We aren't talking about a bug here that allows a player to dup millions of credits.. or to attack another player from a position that they cannot be attacked back at.. we are talking about correctly working code that has zero effect on other players. It cannot be fair or unfair.. it just is.

You are wrong. I'm sorry but you are. It affects me because he can use the same skill I pay for in skill points without using them. Advertising is a compettive edge. Keeping it without paying skill points for it is unfair competition. I'll give you hiring but I won't budge on this one. Using skill perks to attract business away from merchants who still have the skill is unfair. Period.

No it isn't. Not when you have the same option he does. You have every bit the same ability to regain those skill points. Now if you didn't.. or if you would get in trouble, but he wouldnt, etc etc.. then yes.. perhaps that would be unfair.. but it isn't. the option is there for you just as much as it is there for him. You cannot deny it. And since the DEVs haven't said it is a 'bad' thing.. it is just the way the rules of this game works.. and is acceptable until they decide otherwise and change it.

Fine. Here is my position. I don't support the "feature" that allows you to continue to gain the benefit of advertising after you no longer have the skills required to set it up. I will spend the rest of my days lobbying to get it changed so that when you don't have the skill any more the vendor will stop adbarking and remove itself from the global map when it detects that you no longer have the skills necessary to set those features up. I won't bother boring you any more with my own internal reasons for supporting such a change.

Doc.. You are misunderstanding me. I don't necessarily disagree with you. From a design perspective... it does need to be fixed. But when players use the design as it exists.. they are not doing anything wrong. Just because something is designed poorly.. doesn't mean that it shouldn't be used. Or that people that use the system as it is designed are evil and bad and deserving of people like Dingoboi flaming them.

Yes it does! I only flame you because you are so much fun to make fun of. Your delusional posting and rants amuse me so. You must be on really heavy anti-psychotic medication. Pssst.... they aren't working.

Here is the problem. I don't have the energy or the desire to spend months arguing over the semantics of it. I think its bad design, bad for the profession and I think it should be changed.

I really really really really hope the Devs have some time once JtL is about to launch to turn their attention back to the Core game. It wa said somewhere by TH (I think) that there were 70...count em *70* people on the JtL team. I salivate at the possibility that those 70 people will be assigned to the Core game issues that have plauged us from launch.
