Yes you can't make structures private if there are vendors inside.
... unless that was changed recently, i will check that once I can get back ingame.
Oh and could you post the title of the KB article, or the article number?
We could /bug the inability to set structures with vendors to private then, since it should be allowed according to the KB

Ah servers are up again, and I checked.
Still get the "A structure hosting a vendor cannot be declared private" message.
So lets /bug that error message

I think that in the early days of the game you could put a vendor in a private structure but that's been so long ago and I was so new at the time that I could be mistaken.

It was changed very early on..on or about 08-14-2003. There is a post by Raph Koster about it around that time and he metions the current publish which had to have been that day or the day before.
Prior to that vendors were allowed in private strucures.

Found this in KB:
"Customer Service is aware of the common merchant practice using their vendors to sell containers labeled with specific character names, to denote a special order that is ready for pickup at that customer's convenience.
If you wish to engage in this practice, please note that all vendor sales are public, and anyone with access to a vendor can purchase any item that is listed for sale on that vendor. This is not a violation of Sony Online Entertainment harassment policies. Additionally, Customer Service is unable to assist in any instance of an order being purchased by anyone other than the intended recipient of that sale.
If you have a sales transaction with specific items meant for a specific player it is recommended that you take steps to ensure that only that player has access to that vendor until such time as the sale is complete (This can be done via structure privacy settings and entrance permissions), or more simply process the transaction via the secure trade interface window."
Isn't it impossible to make the structure private when you have a vendor inside?

This was nerfed because people were putting vendors in private structures and using them as item storage. They just never bothered to change that message...

At the time this change was made you weren't supposed to be able to do that because the maintenance was supposed to be [Sale Amount]/1000 per 45 minutes. This never worked on NPC vendors and when they announced they were fixing it the firestorm that followed convinced them to just make all vendor 15/cr per hour instead.

So, is there any reason for this limitation anymore?

Probably not though the devs are probably not all that happy that you can store 4k items on a vendor for 15cr/hr *shrug*
