Thread: Are there real 100% 'merchant' characters out there?

I currently have Novice Merchant on my main just so he can run his shop (well, two vendors...) and sell tissues and pets.

I've seen discussions on here about how the 'Merchant' profession should be running all the shops and everyone else should just offer consignments to them. Don't know how well that would work, but if that's how it's supposed to happen...

Does anyone actually do that, or is it unfeasible at the moment owing to the 'drop merchant and keep the vendors' bug?

(I don't use bugs or exploits, hence keeping NM on my char.)

Do any of you see that happening in the future if SOE fix the bug?

Have many of you taken on an Alt-Char just to make a Master Merchant and reclaim the points on your main?

Just wondering, feel free not to answer if this stuff is too boring for you all.

There's a thread on exactly this which you can find here.

Aethal Sar, Weaponsmith. Retired from game - probably missing it already!

Thank you - interesting reading.

I also now know what 'vendor poaching' is I thought putting your merchant in a recessed dish above boiling water seemed a little extreme...

I would like to see a 100% merchant.. don't mean just the profession with the vendors and all..

I mean some sort of broker for stuff.. you give him a item he sells, it and takes part of the profit.. or are there many people out there?

well I do the commision for just a couple big sales people - about 200 mil worth of merchandise - this is on a dedicated vendor - I know who makes what or owns what on that vendor and trakc sales via the emails. BTW to mention the 1% my smuggler alt makes (who is also the merchant) makes clamps and knives for resale - that's my small percentage - the key is intial investment money to get stock - then as it rolls over you replace it outof profits.

I only make a couple mil per week or so , but that's because my city has yet to get a shuttle due to the planetary caps.

So you know by the product and vendor, who sells what? That's cool, so if you had two med suppliers, you would put them on two different vendors to keep track?

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

yes I would defnintely have to.....by keeping product overlap low and commission items on seperate vendors it's not too difficult - though I still owe one of my suppliers 1.6 mil if I cn hook up with him this weekend -

The hardest part is that people need to trust you with the commision sales, so they know you will pay them. so your reputation is very important

I agree that would be tough, that was my original concern, but it quickly became finding a merchant at all. lol

My theory on that is frankly it became so difficult to find suppliers that many merchants gave up. I ran vendors for people for a while but it became increasingly difficult to find people who were willing to pay me anything to do it. One day I hope that changes, with skill points meaning something and with interface changes that might make it much easier to offer items to the vendor.

It's hard to be 100% merchant when the profession only takes 100 points or so. Just a thought

I make 1% of my inventory - the rest is bought, resold, or resold on commision
