Thread: Screw this profession Its not fun, it won't be fun, let everyone keep their vendors.

Been a master merchant 3 months now... The fixes coming our way don't help me at all, and 99% of the playerbase is against it, especially removing the vendors that have allready been placed. To quote something I read here from another merchant:


Merchant has been broken for a long time and will continue to be broke. The only problem I see is that Merchants that drop the skills get to keep the NPC vendor, I say big deal. This bug or gift that the DEVs made when they created SWG is now a part of the system. If it is done away with it will ruin a lot of crafters and businesses. Keeping the vendors is a minor thing because all the other benifits are taken away when the skills are dropped.


All you guys who are for these changes, Doc included, I think you should get your heads out of your arses and consider the fun factor for the other 99.5% of the player base that doesn't want to be AND STAY a Merchant. These proposed changes don't do a dang thing to make our class more fun. Everyone I talk to and 95% of the responses to the In Development thread are against this.


What is fun is being a Master Artisan and still being able to hunt or PvP. Now if you want to be a Master Tailor or Armorsmith or Weaponsmith, you will have to waste points on Merchant and won't be able to have fun in combat anymore. OR, you can find a Merchant to re-sell your goods, which I am sure there are just hundreds of Merchants waiting to re-stock vendors 3-5 times a day and do nothing but stock someone elses products, woopty doo that sounds fun!

So... IMHO, the answer to all of our problems:


REMOVE THE MERCHANT PROFESSION


PUT ALL MERCHANT SKILLS INTO ARTISAN (BUSINESS/ENGINEERING/MASTER)

SWG Forum Poll:


"We are considering removing all vendors from people who do not have the skills to place them anymore. Do you want vendors removed after the skill to place a vendor has been dropped?"


I will bet 500k credits on my server that the results will be: 90% NO -10% YES

Yes and 99% of the playerbase was against fixing the "1 power runs a harvester forever" bug but it had to be fixed just like this exploit. Dupers were also agains fixing the dupes... I think you get my point.

You mean it will punish a lot of exploiters right? Maybe we should give them a million credits each for exploiting for so long.What benefits do we have besides vendors and planetary ad?

The only person with your head in your ass is you. Just because people like an exploit doesnt mean it shouldnt be fixed. The proposed changes make the class fun for people who are really playing THIS PROFESSION.

I GOT NEWS FOR YOU NOOB YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO DO EVERYTHING WITH ONE CHAR!!! THATS WHY WE ONLY HAVE 250 SKILL POINTS. IF AN ARMORSMITH OR A WEAPONSMITH WANTS TO SELL HIS STUFF HE CAN GET BUSINESS 3 OR /GASP NOVICE MERCHANT.

Yolner, lets ask people if they want to have a fun game to play, what will they say? The fact is, these changes are not helping Merchants at all, they are just hurting crafters who like to have fun by having skill points in combat skills too.


The Merchants are a supreme minority in this game, I know, I am one and I can hardly find any others on my server. Getting rid of the class all together is the real answer here.

You're a funny guy. Where is the fun in being a slave to an Armorsmith? Where is the fun in this profession at all? Its a utilitarian profession that should be merged into Artisan.

Well then since depending on others is evil we should also delete armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, droid engineers, chefs, docs, dancers, musicians, entertainers, artisansbecause people are forced to buy their armor and use their services. You make no sense at all.

Crafters can fight just fine with merchant skills. For example you can be a: 4044 artisan, Master Weaponsmith, Novice Merchant, Master Rifleman, 04004 Marksman, AND Novice Medic. **edit** ARE YOU BITCHING ABOUT EXACTLY? Crafters are not supposed to pwn everything in sight and make millions selling things afterwards.

Lets see the choices are


1) Keep Master x profession and continue crafting while spending an extra 30+ points to keep a decent stock for people


2) Drop the profession and buy stuff from people that actually like to play the merchant profession.


I would bet a HUGE amount of people are going to choose option 2. This is not just a simple change in the game. This makes the biggest change to the economy to date. One that has been around for 6+ months now.


Call it an exploit or whatever you want, it is the way it is. It isn't an exploitto the CSRs as no person has even gotten banned because of this.



The changes I see coming are going to be more and more empty vendors and fewer crafters in general. The changes to the GCW actually look pretty good and it looks like the devs might actually be making this game more into a war. Maybe I'm wrong and all the crafters will bite the bullet and give up their other skills. I have an advantage of having 2 chars so keeping merchant isn't much of a problem.


I don't see a problem with fixing this "bug" but this has been a known issue since day 3 of the game I would guess and probably even in TC. Waiting this long to fix it is very bad planning. This isn't just a nerf to a certain skill like knockdown, this is a change to all crafting.



All you Master Merchants flame all you want. I will never sell my items through a merchant because the system is pathetic to do so. I see no bonus to go through the work of suppling a merchant with wares. I guess I might sell more things but the hassle of doing so makes it not worth it. If a merchant has a store and I would like to sell things in it, I don't see why I have to hand it to them to put on a shelf.

This will not change anythign for most people. I know a LOT of high lvl crafters on my server and every one of them has some merchant skills or uses a merchant to sell their items. The only people who will be affected are exploiters.

Why exactly is it a hassle? Is it hard to walk to someone's shop offer a fewcrates to their vendor and make a few 100k? I dont see what the problem is really.

Amen! This is a major change to an allready established economy. It will be tested by 5 people on test center, it will be published with huge bugs, and it will disturb any balance the economy currently has. All to benefit one of the smallest portions of the playerbase.


If they merge Merchant skills with Artisan and the crafting skills, all the Merchants get their skill points back, everyone who needs to can run vendors to sell their goods, the economy keeps chugging, and everyone is happy. Not to mention, less time spent fixing professions like Merchant means more time spent on other professions which need help bad.

The economy will keep going just fine if the exploiters are stopped. Like i said before most high lvlcrafters dont exploit this bug. Only the greedy**** do.If they start deleting all the gimped profssoonDroid engineer, Carbineer, Chef, Pikeman, Squad Leader will be gone simply because most people dont play them.
