Some additional changes.

Quoted here for your reading convience:

As you know, on August 6th, we put some preliminary changes to the Vendors on Test Center. These changes are part of the commodity server enhancements that we have pushed out. We announced some additional changes yesterday, but that apparently isn't the rest of the story. After that happened, the programmer who is doing this was reading the forums and went the extra mile to make some additional changes.



Many thanks go out to Mike for putting in the good stuff and my own thanks to the community for having such a positive and fruitful discussion. I also want to tip my hat to DocSavag and all of his hard work, too.



A quick summary of the changes are:



· All players now have a limit on the total number of items that they may have for sale on all of their vendors combined, rather than a per vendor limit (Aggregate limits)

· The bonus for Master Merchant has been dramatically increased



The revised-revised Vendor limits are as follows:



Artisan Business III: Get 1 vendor that will hold a total of 100 items

Artisan Business IV: Get an additional vendor and a total item limit increase of +150

Merchant Novice: Get an additional vendor and a total item limit increase of +500

Merchant Efficiency III: Get a total item limit increase of +100

Merchant Efficiency IV: Get an additional vendor and a total item limit increase of +150

Merchant Management I: Get an additional vendor and a total item limit increase of +500

Merchant Management II: Get an additional vendor and a total item limit increase of +500

Merchant Management III: Get two additional vendors and a total item limit increase of +500

Merchant Management IV: Get two additional vendors and a total item limit increase of +500

Merchant Master: Get two additional vendors and a total item limit increase of +1000



Some examples of different Merchant Templates might be:



So, at Merchant Novice the player would be allowed 3 vendors and 750 total items divided between those 3 as he or she chooses.



If the player wants to go to Efficiency IV without any Management, he could have 4 vendors with 1000 total items.



At Management IV without any Efficiency the limit is 9 vendors and 2750 items.


At Master Merchant, it’s 12 vendors and 4000 total items.

Interesting that some of the capacity is in efficiency and some is in management.


I am surprised that they didn't break it down so that:


1. Additional vendors were in management.

2. Additional items were in efficiency.


Not complaining, I can live with it the way it is. I am still shocked we went from 660 items max to 4000.

I believe it is a theory (a sound one) that while efficiency should make you better it shouldn't be the skill tree that drives the profession. The management tree is the meat of the merchant profession as it gives you the selling power you need to move large amounts of items. If you become more efficient you get a fair boost with both lower costs and higer sales items but not more vendors. The current plan really looks pretty good to me and I saw several iterations of plans along the way. 4k itesm is about double what I expectd us to end up with after talking with the devs about this for months. Aggregate limits were a huge thing to do it wasn't as easy as it appears to accomplish and I was told more than once this past week that it wouldn't happen now, but apparently "Mike" is a wizard and made it happen.

I've only been a lurker is this forum but as a Master Merchant I just wanted to give you a big THANK YOU for all your efforts on this turbulent issue. I'm glad to see that SOE can understand a problem when we have the right communication efforts applied to the situation.

Holy cow.


Floored again. This actually went towards restoring some faith in SOE from me. This is FAR above where I thought we'd land.


Anyone whining about this change now just wants to complain. This is an excellent compromise andhave no complaints.



Well, one note - they still could have done a better job of communicating the changes. Removing the feedback post abruptly and letting the community stew for days was bad form. I hope changes like this are communicated differently and more effectively in the future.

Sry if this has been answered before, have just got back from vacation and seen this. Does the total number of items include items that are in packs/pouches/containers on the vendor and if so, does it go as far as counting crated item individually?

This change I can live with, and finally something worthwhile to be a Master Merchant. Good job Doc and Mike. Finally a fix that doesn't turn into a total nerf.

It's a good time to hit the In Test Merchant Vendors Part 2 thread

and ask for single line item quantity display. The vendor and bazaar interface is very clumsy and need to be fixed. This is a great start because it would force work to start on fixing it. It would require progammers to update the way items are bought. Don't you hate it when you have to click six buttons to make a purchase and you have to make 10 identical purchases? Don't you hate it when you have to restock all those bought items one by one? Displaying all identical items on a vendor on a single line with a quantity listed allows buyers to pick if they want 1 or 100, sellers will just add quantity. Vendors won't display restocks on separate pages - all on one page. It's a small change that has lots of good effects.

Excellent news. Not only can my business continue exactly as it has before, I've got more vendors to drop at 4404 merchant. Sweet.
