Thread: want /mail command

I would like to be able to quickly email messages to people. The easiest way to do this would be to create a /mail command. This would allow me (via) cut and paste to quickly send out price lists or usage instructions. It would also allow me to send messages while auto running to my harvesters and not fill up my entire screen so that I wouldn't get surprised when some aggro MOB shows up.

The syntax of the command would be:

/mail personName "Subject in here" and then a bunch of text which goes in the body.

I don't care about attachments.

This command creates "new" email messages ... haven't played with the syntax yet.

That is incredibly useful. Thanks!

The command: /ui action persistentMessageComposer only brings up the mail GUI interface.

I still need to fill it in by hand.

My proposed /mail command would dispense with the gui altogether. Ideally, I could set it up so that I could use a pf key (or maybe macro it).

I haven't tried this yet, but if it bypasses the message listing, then at least you would not be subjected to the lag associated with bringing up your entire inbox listing just to to compose a new email.

For those of us that use the email interface as a "palm pilot" within the game, this could be a very important time saver. Not to mention that, at least once per evening, my game freezes up when I hit "CTRL E".

You already have what you need.

email your thank you ad to yourself, then whena new customer buys from the bazaar, forward your ad to them. Then all you have to do is clean up the annoying > signs.

I have a standard email I send folks thanking them ... and since SWG remembers your text that is in copy mode from game session to game session, when I get an email saying I sold something, I Ctl E to get email up ... I click on the message about the successful sale ... I click on the NEW button to make a new email ... I type in the name .. sub >Thanks for your business! ... then click in the body and paste my standard statement ... then Ctl D to drag and drop my shop waypoint.

Time to do all of that is probably 5-10 seconds max

The above are useful suggestions. They start to break down when you have more than one thing you want to cut and paste and more than one customer.

I would like an entirely non-gui (hence macroable) way to send an email.

How are you copying and pasting? ctrl-c is mapped to character screen ... *digs looking for that useless manual*

Under the chat tab of the keymap editor, you will find a way to bind copy/cut/paste.

Personally, i use ctrl-alt-c and ins to avoid conflicts with the default keymap.

Do we really want a macroable email system?

I don't need to be receiving in-game spam from a retailer letting me know what they're newest stuff of the day is. Don't forget that the biggest support of real-world spam is small-businesses.

No macroable email system, thank you. I can deal with emailing my best customersby multi-selecting on my Friend's list then hitting the mail button or by word-of-mouth on the boards.
