At least they won't have to listen to the same merchant requests year after year
Here's a clicky talking about the new game.

well since there will be no decay, and a ton of other things there will be little economy in this game.

Unfortunately this change was telegraphed more than 6 months ago. The changes to the merchant profession to make it "easier" to find stuff was a clear indication that this profession was doomed.
The crafting system for the new game looks very simplified from the current system. I'm betting it will rely heavily on consumables like stims and move away from weapons and armor as economic staples.

Sad, but true. It's one of the major reasons I left.
The removal of decay from the game pretty much annihilates the weapons and armor market. If you don't make consumables, you won't have much of a business. Sounds like another big-time MMORPG on the market. How curious.

According to Tiggs, item decay is being removed entirely.

There will still be item decay, just not from cloning.

That was my reading of it and it wasn't a surprise to me. Players as a rule don't like item decay. Its too much like real risk for them and they don't want it in a game there is plenty of risk in real life. There is no real way to have a robust economy in a game without decay and that is why it existed. But they had been chipping away at it for a long time and players by and large don't want to have to rely on other players to get good stuff they want it and they want it now not on someone else's schedule. The crafting market will undoubtedly move into less critical things like clothing and houseing and stuff and weapons will most likely increasingly become quest items..I wouldn't be at all surprised if NPC weapons and armor vendors don't start popping up very very soon.

Yup. Full-time crafters are no longer welcome in Galaxies. The non-crafting community has gotten their way at last, it would seem.
