Thread: PLEASE GIVE US ADVERTISING SIGNS!
Not sure what they intended to go there since it has been in the game since beta but there have never been craftable signs..what if they were city decorations like streetlamps and statues? You could rent one from the City (managed by the Mayor) and put up your advertisement....
Thesewould be a nice item for Merchants to be able to craft: Posters, Billboards, Holographic Ads.
We are Artisans, are we not?
(Note: The posters and billboards, etc. could use the same multi-graphic selection that statues and streetlamps use. One schematic with a choice of arton the final build step.)

Ok..but they have to cost either lots..or they have to be city decorations. That is necessary to keep the proliferation down. So which is it?
Posters and hologramswould befurniture items, placed inside a building to advertise specials or other store locations (or affiliates, etc.)
Outdoor Billboards would probably have to be city decorations placed by the mayor. Although a 1 lot ad item doesn't sound too bad, it seems that it would be easier in that case just to use a Merchant Tent and put the vendor inside. As a city decoration there's a clear limiting factor, and very likely the Merchant would have to pay the city to keep the ad up.

Outdoor billboards in a city limit could take up decoration slots which work differently. Those don't belong to the player though they belong to the City as a whole and are administrated by the sitting mayor.
I don't know about half lots. Probably not something they ever thought about doing. Wonder if we could get away with justa certain number of them (2 per merchant) provided they are structures with 0 storage capabilities.
I think the player placable idea for posters and interior billboards is a great idea, I'm so tired of having to use random backpacks renamed to help add information to my shop.
I think the idea of exterior billboards taking a lot is WAY too expensive, especially for one sign, maybe if it cost 1 lot for 10 and they were HUGE, then maybe.
The idea of politician placable items is great though. That way you have to essentially have to end up paying advert costs, since placeable items cost what, at least 1k a week? Maybe even up the cost depending on the style, like gardens and such.
Signs would be hugely useful, even if just for interiors. With signs I could advertise and supply information to my customers much more easily, since we have a limited amount vendors can adbark (255char right?)
- I could have a weekly special sign
- I could tell customers about the things I do and do not usually stock
- I could tell customers about current bugs with current items
- I could tell customers about credits for long term customers
- I could add immersion to my store, and make it look more like (gasp) a mercantile area, instead of a converted house. (oh for up/down)
- I could inform customers about special order requirements, etc.
It would be nice to be anle to have it say a little more than sign. Say we can name it ("Draznar's current resources" or "Troth's Custom Orders") or maybe a list of some preselects (Pricelist, Wishlist, Custom Orders, etc), and have text we can add. Have it work something like the macro editor, with a title and free form text.
PS: we already have tab capablitity, so price lists would be cool.
