Hmm... nice ideas, but....
1) Limits use of yell for other things, like forming hunting parties
2) the current implementation of barker droids is, well, daft. With droids only lasting an hour, and autostoring at random anyway, they're no real use as an advertising means (but that's really for another post, and has been done do death already)
3 & 4) should be rolled into one idea, with the cityban lasting x hours / days (banning someone from a NPC city permanently would draw some serious complaints, I'm sure)
Some way of limiting spam (even my own :-)), is necessary- there's so many people yelling in Coronet that it's difficult to see them in the game view because they overlap, and you can't see them to easily in spatial chat because they disappear too quickly, thus reducing its effectiveness anyway.
Perhaps, to get around the problem for (1), terminals could be placed where hunters could post "would like to hunt" messages...

One other thing. Don't limit spam for selling services, such as Doctor buffs, or Smuggler slices.
Kinda hard to put those on a vendor.

It would seem to me the 'fix' for this issue would be a better implementation of the 'Looking For Group' tag and maybe a Group Leader option for 'Looking for Members' flag. Then this could be achieved in a LFG Channel. Since the Devs hav already indicated tehy plan to change the chat system, this is easily in their path.

Agreed that they are not implemented in the best way possible, and others (including myself) have suggestions for making them better in other threads.

I totally didn't considder that. Great Idea!!!

For someone like me with an 'older' system that gets a pop-up stability warning before I get to play the game, I can tell you that coronet is a city I MUST alter options to hide bubbles for...I have crashed to desktop more than once.

Excellent point!!! The only responses I can think of is:
1. someone 'Selling' their buffing service can always buy novice merchant
2.Docs can always hang out at the Med Facility the same way Dancers and Musicians HAVE to hang out at the Cantina
3. If slicing an Item is 'illegal' then why should they ADVERTISE a law breaking activity

The /ignore command works wonders for the perma-spammers. If I come into Coronet and see the same person spewing thea message every 10 seconds, they hit the list quick.
I've never AFK spammed a starport to sell my resources, and I have no need for someone who does. I don't care if they're selling pre-nerf melons that'll let you one-shot a Krayt and open your FSCS all in one fell swoop.

I've always been in favor oflimiting the instances that someone can use a /yell, /shout, /howl, /sceam to once per minute inside of city limits. (or maybe once every3 mins). That way people can still shout their wares. But he would cut down on the noise polution.
I never thought about the possibility of allowing someone to shout more often baised on their merchant skills.

Today, any fool capable of typing '/yell' can spam an advertisement, which takes away from the value of the Advertising tree and the Barker Droids. What if cities had a Noise Polution Ordinace(s), and player cities could pick and choose which ones to use?
1. Only a licensed Merchant (Novice up) can Yell in a city.
2. Only a Barker Droid can repeat a Say
3. If a Say is repeated x number of times by a non-licensed individual within y number of minutes they become Persona-Non-Grata in the city for Z hours, and are removed by guards. This shouldprevent macros from being used as workarounds.
4. After N times of being thrown out of a city, they are banned from a city (imagine being banned from Coronet).
5. Put in the NPC Hiring for Advertising thingy.
Results I would forsee:
1. Merchant Advertising become a powerful tool in the Game.
2. New bussiness opportunity...Training Classes: Since people can't spam their availabiliy to train, they have to find a Merchant, or rather a Merchant finds willing Trainers. Players would pay to enter the 'Class' (a house with an entry fee). Merchant could also tailor what is Trained with what is sold in the vendors.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....
/yell should be like burstrun for the mind.
only one yell allowed per 45 secs
any yells of over, say, 50 characters are subject to the "Burstrun" effect, whereby your mind pool is drained relative to the number of characters you yell. Yells under 50 secs are still subject to the 1 per 45 secs or whatever rule.
So people can still form groups, ask for training, docs can advertise buffing (with short yells)but we don't get the horrible 300 character diatribes repeated every 10 secs that we see in Coronet.

how about if people can hold up signs? like those silly movies where the people can't talk, so they have cardboard signs with their lines on it

I would defenitely be behind this idea
