Thread: POLL: Do you sell your own goods, or goods of others?

I keep reading all this garbage about the "merchant" class and how they will be affected by this and that, and this is my attempt to see if such people really exist, and if so, in what numbers. So very simple poll. Please, no discussion (or else your vote won't count... I mean it) just simply answer "yes" or "no" or whatever the questions asks for, and if you can't answer it or it doesn't apply to you, please just use n/a.

And yes, I realize that I'm not accounting for looters and miners in this poll. This is really meant to determine the relationship between "elite" crafters and merchants.

Thank you for your participation.

1.How many boxes of "merchant" do you currently have?

2. How many advanced crafting classes (thiscan include anynon-novice class where you craft goods and sell them)do you and/or your "alts" play in addition to merchant?

3. As a merchant, roughly what percentage of your sales come from you selling things that others (besides yourself and your "alts") have crafted?

4. Assuming that you (at whatever level of merchant you are) had a vendor cap limit of 300 items per vendor, and the "tools" for running a vendor were beefed up significantly, how likely would you be to actively pursue the selling of other crafter's goods? (unlikely / neutral / very likely)?

Thanks again

When crafting I never sold another crafters goods....

Current merchant 0/0/0/4

I was a Master AS from dec 03 to May 04 During that time 100% of my sales were items I crafted.

I now maintain merchant and vendors to sell reosources to crafters. Most are older items and I sell them for less then forum prices but high enough to keep me from being wiped out. I also help newer crafters by selling them smaller stacks at discounted prices if they show me desire toward thier new proffesion.

I would not bother selling other players goods... infact I am prob going to drop merchant all together and go bac to selling my resoruces on the forum... There would be no incentive for me to continue spending 1/5 of my total SP just to stock a few items.

1. How many boxes of "merchant" do you currently have?

I AM A MASTER MERCHANT

2. How many advanced crafting classes (this can include any non-novice class where you craft goods and sell them) do you and/or your "alts" play in addition to merchant?

MASTER ARTISAN, MASTER ARCHITECT

3. As a merchant, roughly what percentage of your sales come from you selling things that others (besides yourself and your "alts") have crafted?

ABOUT 70% OF MY SALES ARE CRAFTED BY OTHERS. YES, YOU CAN BE A REAL MERCHANT!

4. Assuming that you (at whatever level of merchant you are) had a vendor cap limit of 300 items per vendor, and the "tools" for running a vendor were beefed up significantly, how likely would you be to actively pursue the selling of other crafter's goods? (unlikely / neutral / very likely)?

NA ALREADY DO AND THE ITEM LIMIT IS NO BIG DEAL TO ME.

I never come to the forums but when I heard about the changes I decided that it was time to post.

1.How many boxes of "merchant" do you currently have? Master, for over 6 months

2. How many advanced crafting classes (thiscan include anynon-novice class where you craft goods and sell them)do you and/or your "alts" play in addition to merchant? None

3. As a merchant, roughly what percentage of your sales come from you selling things that others (besides yourself and your "alts") have crafted? Every sale I make is from someone else, 100%

4. Assuming that you (at whatever level of merchant you are) had a vendor cap limit of 300 items per vendor, and the "tools" for running a vendor were beefed up significantly, how likely would you be to actively pursue the selling of other crafter's goods? (unlikely / neutral / very likely)? 300 per vendor is better than the current plan, but not enough if you ask me. If the limit goes up a bitand the vendor interface is improved, I will very likely continue to sell other people's stuff. Otherwise I'll have to drop merchant.

1. i am master... i have all 18 boxes

2. 2 -- master artisan, master architect (just got the latter, so i have not built up my inventory for it yet... luckily)

3. just a guess, but probably around 15%, mainly low level meds, resources, spice, food, and components from other professions besides mine. any thing i can pick up at a great price, even if i make it, too.

4. if i have enough vendor space, i will sell as much merchandise as i can obtain and expect to sell at a reasonable retail markup, within my play-time stocking limitations. i don't want to stock vendors the whole time i am on, in otherwords. for example, if i find muon gold for 3k per crate, and it commonly sells for 7k per crate, i stock up and load my vendor.

so the answer to the title question is, i do both.

1. 3004 merchant

2. 1 - Master chef

3. 5% of sales are items crafted by others, but it has been increasing.

4. Unlikely. I will not be able to carry all of my own goods and have room for others goods with the vendor item caps, even if they are 300.

2 currently, previously 4

Currently 0% Previously I've sold spice, meds and BE pets made by another BE, but it was a pain in the bum counting up sales receipts every day

unlikely, however that doesnt mean that it isnt a viable playstyle if the tools are in place to do so, its just not my playstyle.

1. Master Merchant for about 2 weeks before announcement of the changes.

2. One advanced crafting class...Armorsmith. I also have Master Artisan and sell some artisan goods as well.

3. Maybe 1%

4. A cap of 300 wouldn't change a thing for me. I sell vehicles made by others just to make sure they are available in the city where I have vendors. I have no desire to sell on consignment for others. A cap of 110 would actually not change anything for me.

I would pursue it because I have up to 2 unused vendors. I would only do it if I could get a decent markup and would never consider high-volume 10% or 20% sort of markup situations. I would not want to do consignment. I would insist on the "I buy it and whatever I do with it is my business" kind of relationship with the other crafter. (figuring out consignments as goods are sold would be too much of a headache for me) I would not sell loot items for others. Delivery would have to be convenient for me. These things would not apply if I were helping a newbie who simply lacks vendors of his/her own.

sorry to do this... i would edit my post, but i can't yet.

to #4, i would like to clarify:

i would (and do) sell others' crafted items. the limits proposed will probably prevent me from doing much of that if i continue crafting myself. with 300 items per vendor (total of 1800 at master) i would probably still be able to list items when i found a deal, but even at 300 per vendor, it would likely limit how much of that sort of thing i could do.

1.How many boxes of "merchant" do you currently have? 0001 and working my way up

2. How many advanced crafting classes (thiscan include anynon-novice class where you craft goods and sell them)do you and/or your "alts" play in addition to merchant? BE

3. As a merchant, roughly what percentage of your sales come from you selling things that others (besides yourself and your "alts") have crafted? 0%

4. Assuming that you (at whatever level of merchant you are) had a vendor cap limit of 300 items per vendor, and the "tools" for running a vendor were beefed up significantly, how likely would you be to actively pursue the selling of other crafter's goods? (unlikely / neutral / very likely)? Likely, my guild has resourcers that are not merchants. I am working on merchant to get additional vendors so they can sell their products. If the crafters in my guild lost their vendors I would be able to bail them out.
